Family and friends of a Dallas police officer killed while sitting in his police cruiser are getting an opportunity to say their final goodbyes. The funeral for Officer Darron Burks will be held on Saturday morning. A viewing will be held from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. at Watermark Church in North Dallas. A Celebration of Life service will immediately follow. Fellow police officers and family members will hold a private burial ceremony afterward. On August 29, Burks, a rookie police officer, was sitting in his patrol car in Oak Cliff when 30-year-old Corey Cobb-Bey approached and shot Burks in what Dallas Police Chief Eddie Garcia called "an execution." Texas Governor Greg Abbott approved flying the state and US flags at half-staff in Dallas on Saturday in Burks' honor. "The First Lady and I extend prayers of comfort for the Burks family during their time of grief, and we urge all Texans to remember and honor Officer Burks' service as a dedicated and trusted law enforcement officer," wrote Abbott in a statement.

FOX 4 has learned the off-duty officer involved in a hit-and-run shooting investigation is William Martin, the same officer involved in Jacqueline Craig's viral arrest in 2016. The Fort Worth Police Department has yet to identify an officer, but police confirmed the officer discharged a firearm and also pointed out the truck driver received non-life-threatening injuries. The DeSoto Police Department will release new information and video of a deadly shooting over the weekend. DeSoto Police are holding a news conference on Friday morning to discuss the police shooting of 34-year-old Jesse Martinez. Sunday around 3:30 a.m., police say Martinez, two women and a child were knocking on doors and trespassing through yards in a DeSoto neighborhood near North Hampton Road and East Pleasant Run. Police say Martinez was holding the child and a handgun when they responded. They say Martinez threatened to shoot any officers who confronted him. One officer opened fire, killing Martinez. The child was returned to family members after the shooting. The connection between Martinez, the child and the two women he was with has not been released at this time. Police say the two women were brought in for questioning, but no charges have been announced. Initially, they wouldn’t provide Martinez’s identity. The news conference is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. DeSoto police say there are elements of the case they will not be able to discuss because they are still under investigation. DeSoto Police, Grand Prairie Police and the Public Integrity Unit of the Dallas County District Attorney's Office are involved in the investigation. At the time of Martinez’s death, there was an active warrant for his arrest. Court documents show he violated his bond on charges of aggravated kidnapping and sexual assault of a minor — by tampering with his electronic monitor. According to an arrest warrant affidavit from the December 2021 incident, police were called out to a Dallas home where Martinez was threatening to kidnap a teenager at gunpoint. Police say weeks earlier, that teen made an outcry, saying he repeatedly sexually assaulted her. Once she was safe, the teenager at the time claimed Martinez was part of a cartel and had a lot of drugs, guns and money, but that allegation hasn’t been confirmed.
