NSSF has expanded its catchment area from mandatory worker contributions to voluntary savers in both the informal and business sectors. Under the new scheme, launched today, both existing and new savers can save for both the short and long term and hold multiple accounts. Earlier in the day, we spoke to Winnie Byanyima, the wife of Dr. Kizza Besigye, about the circumstances surrounding her husband's arrest. Dr. Besigye was reportedly picked up in Nairobi. Winnie Byanyima explained that Dr. Besigye had traveled with Hajji Obeid Lutale Kamulegeya to Nairobi to attend the book launch of Kenyan politician Martha Karua. She further stated that Dr. Besigye, who had booked into an apartment in Nairobi, failed to attend the book launch on Sunday, which raised concerns among his hosts. KCCA has repeated its call to the Ham Group of Companies to halt construction activities at the Jugula drainage channel in Nakivubo. The call followed an inspection by KCCA's acting Executive Director, Frank Rusa, at the site of the structure. Rusa was met with concerns about the impact on local traders and the historical St. Balikudembe Pilgrim site, whose access has been compromised. Additionally, Hamis Kiggundu, the proprietor of Ham Enterprises, faced criticism for proceeding with construction works without proper consultation. However, he insisted that there had been negotiations with area leaders regarding a new access route to the pilgrim site. Winnie Byanyima, the wife of Dr. Kizza Besigye, the former leader of the Opposition Forum for Democratic Change party, has spoken out after her husband's arrest in Kenya over the weekend. Byanyima, who serves as the executive director of the Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS, explained that Besigye had traveled to Nairobi to attend a book launch for Martha Karua, a Kenyan politician. He had traveled with his colleague, Hajji Obed Kamulegeya, on Saturday and had booked an apartment. However, Besigye failed to attend the event on Sunday, raising concerns among his hosts. Byanyima also noted that both Besigye’s and Kamulegeya’s phones were switched off, prompting colleagues in Kampala to worry. A senior military contact later confirmed that Besigye was being held at the Makindye Military Police barracks. In response to this development, Byanyima stated that she is traveling to Uganda to challenge Besigye's trial in a military court. Leaders from the Refugee host Districts have expressed concern over congestion in schools located in Refugee Camps. They say that the teacher to pupil ratio is also alarming. Wilfred Saka, the Terego District chairperson says some schools in the area have about 4,000 learners yet classes are not enough to accommodate all the learners.
The Ministry of Information and Communications Technology and National Guidance will need 19.2 billion shillings to revamp POSTA Uganda Limited. This was revealed when the State Minister for ICT, Godfrey Kabbyanga, appeared before the ADHOC Committee set up by Parliament to further investigate the operations of the entity.
