Opposition Senators stayed away from debate on the 2024 Budget in Parliament’s Upper House on Friday, as was the case with their colleagues in the House of Representatives on Tuesday. The senators absent were Shawn Nicholas, Johnathan Joseph, Alex Browne and David Massiah of the United Progressive Party, and Senator for the Barbuda Council, Fabian Jones. Senate President Alincia Williams Grant says early notice was given to all senators about the shift in the schedule for the new session of parliament, including the budget debate. Senator Williams Grant says she first got notice of the date for the Throne Speech early November, and relayed this information to all lawmakers in the Upper House. She is therefore at a loss as to why opposition senators stayed away on Friday.

A car went up in flames in the Big Creek area of Valley Road on Tuesday night, but it is not clear whether the driver was injured. Fire officers say they received the call at about 10:13pm and arrived on the scene to find a Toyota Vitz engulfed in flames. They extinguished the blaze, leaving the smouldering shell of the vehicle. It is not clear what caused the fire.
Antiguan Giovanni Quinn captured the boys under 14 crown at the 2nd Annual Bi-Nation Junior Tennis Championship against hosts St. Kitts. Jack Matthew reports.
Windies skipper Rovman Powell wants the bowlers to respond to the challenge in Thursday's fifth and deciding T20 International against England. Powell notes that while the batters have been generally consistent, the bowlers have come up short. The final match will begin at 4:00 pm at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy in Trinidad on Thursday, with the series level at 2-apiece.
