Antigua and Barbuda could become the first country in the region to use energy from hydrogen, as the Government signs a Memorandum of Understanding with UK-based Drift Energy. Environment Minister, Hon. Sir Molwyn Joseph and representatives of the company have spoken with ABS News about the potential benefits, especially for the yachting sector. Garfield Burford reports.

Antigua and Barbuda has come in for high praise from several officials for its hosting of the just-concluded fourth Conference on Small Island Developing States. United States Ambassador to Barbados and the Eastern Caribbean, Roger Nyhus, is among those commending the Gaston Browne administration. Nyhus calls the conference “wildly successful.” Garfield Burford reports.
The People's Republic of China says it remains committed to providing support to Antigua and Barbuda. The country was the largest single donor to the just-concluded SIDS4 Conference, providing audio visual equipment and other support worth over a million US dollars. Prime Minister Hon. Gaston Browne met with a high-level delegation from China during the conference, where China reaffirmed its support for the twin-island state.
There are high hopes that Small Island Developing States will benefit significantly from a ground-breaking document unanimously adopted at the SIDS4 Conference in Antigua and Barbuda. The Antigua & Barbuda Agenda for SIDS, (ABAS), promises action-oriented responses to the unique challenges these counties face. Jamie J. Roacher reports.
Director-General of the OECS Commission, Dr Didacus Jules says a conch nursery is expected to be established in the sub-region. He made the comments during an exclusive interview with ABS News during the recent SIDS4 Conference. The Union Island in The Grenadines will be the site of the first nursery, but he says the aim is to establish several in the region, with Antigua and Barbuda being one of the possible locations.
The National Office of Disaster Services is urging residents to be prepared as what is forecast to be hyper-active Atlantic Hurricane season begins on June 1. NODS Director Sherrod James, says on a national level, the agency is ready to steer the country through any potential storms, but insists residents must also ensure they too are ready.
