Prime Minister and Finance Minister, Hon. Gaston Browne believes Antigua and Barbuda could emerge as one of Caricom's More Developed Countries or MDCs within the next two decades. He says this is predicated on continued robust socio-economic development. Caricom's MDCs include Barbados, Guyana, Jamaica and Trinidad and Tobago. The Prime Minister was speaking against the backdrop of the country climbing 17 places to 54th in the latest Human Development Index from the United Nations.

Antigua and Barbuda’s Ambassador to the United States and Organisation of Amerian States, Sir Ronald Sanders wants financing institutions to do more to assist countries such as Antigua and Barbuda tackle their water challenges. He insists this is crucial as the impact of climate change imperils countries’ water resources. Sir Ronald was speaking at a meeting of the Permanent Council of the Organisation of American States on Wednesday. Myrtle Bruno-Hodge reports.
Agriculture Minister Hon. E.P. Chet Greene has given instructions for staffers at the Ministry's Headquarters to work from home until further notice. The Minister’s announcement comes in the wake of ongoing concerns by staffers about the state of the building, which triggeresd fresh protests on Wednesday. He also says work to facilitate the temporary relocation of staffers to the Sir Cuthwyn Lake Medical Centre on Nugent Avenue, will be completed within two weeks. Myrtle Bruno Hodge reports.

Most of those enrolled are local students, as they seek to increase their global competitiveness during the fourth industrial revolution. The price of gasoline at the pumps will increase by $0.51 per gallon as of Friday, March 22. Motorists will pay $14.50 per gallon, up from the current price of $13.99. The Finance Ministry made the announcement in a media release on Wednesday, following a 7% increase in gasoline prices and a 2% reduction in diesel prices announced by West Indies Oil Company. The prices as of Friday will be: Gasoline: $14.50 per gallon Diesel: $14.25 per gallon 20 Pound LPG: $32.00 per Bottle 25 Pound LPG: $40.00 per Bottle 100 Pound LPG: $155.00 per Cylinder The Ministry says the adjustment in retail prices is based on the refined pass-through mechanism for fuel prices, which takes into account revenue assurance, price stability, and maintenance of subsidies for certain petroleum products. The Ministry also says even with the looming gas price increase, consumers in Antigua and Barbuda are paying less than people in other countries in the region. It says the average regional prices for gasoline and diesel are currently $15.45 and $15.91 respectively while the regional average for the 20-pound and 100-pound cylinder of LPG is $38.28 and $202.15 respectively.
