ANTIGUA BARBUDA TODAY (Thursday March 7th 2024)
The government has completed negotiations with United States-based Seven Seas water group, to supply an additional three million gallons of potable water to the Antigua Public Utilities Authority. The APUA indicated in a media release Wednesday afternoon that the agreement is set to be signed mid-afternoon next Monday at the APUA Business Centre. Seven Seas will produce the three million gallons through the operation of reverse osmosis plants at the Ffryes Beach and Ivan Rodrigues facilities. Public Utilities Minister, Hon. Melford Nicholas says this will satisfy increasing water demand nationwide, including new housing projects being developed by the Government.
The International Cricket Council has announced the continuation of its long-term partnership with ESPN. The deal will take ICC global events to fans across 51 territories in the Caribbean and Latin America, ahead of an exciting year in the region with the upcoming Men's T20 World Cup. Tourism officials are expecting an increase in arrivals from the European market, as Condor is to restart weekly flights later this year. Between November 5 this year and May 6 next year, a weekly Condor service will connect Antigua to Frankfurt, Germany. The Tourism Authority says officials welcomed the news on day one of the tourism trade fair, ITB. Chief Executive Officer of the ABTA, Colin C. James is quoted in a media release as saying this flight not only solidifies this country's ties with the German-speaking market but also serves as a vital gateway from Central Europe to Antigua & Barbuda. The new aircraft has a capacity of 310 passengers with 30 business class seats and 64 premium economy seats, which the Tourism Authority says is ideal for Antigua and Barbuda’s target audience. In a move aimed at sailing enthusiasts, the extended flight schedule will culminate during the iconic sailing week, ensuring access for European sailors and yachting aficionados alike. Flights to Antigua with Condor can be booked starting as early as March 7.

The murder trial has begun for Kelly Friday, who is accused of killing his uncle, Selwyn Mannix, in September 2021. Friday is accused of stabbing Mannix several times during an altercation at point wharf. Friday is also said to have sustained injuries during the incident, and was pictured with bandages to one of his arms, in the days following the incident. He has already pleaded not guilty to the murder charge. ABS News will provide you with updates from the trial as it ensues.

There was a proud moment in aviation history for the twin island state on Monday, as pilot Brian Chase captained his first flight to his homeland. He was met with a water canon salute, and by officials who extended congratulations on the historic moment. Captain Chase spoke about his immense pride, and shared sage words of advice to Antiguans and Barbudans.
