Reports indicate that a man’s throat was slashed, and he was immediately taken to the hospital for urgent medical treatment. For the third straight day yesterday, someone was brutally killed, this time a 48-year-old man was chopped to death with a cutlass in a rural community. While residents of Little Diamond, St Elizabeth, St Joseph, where the incident occurred expressed some concern about the fatal incident, they said they believed it was an attempted burglary gone bad. Resident Victor Lewis said the deceased frequented the area. He was very concerned about violent crime in Barbados. An elderly man has been hospitalised in stable condition following a dispute at Glendene's Bar, Brittons New Road, St. Michael, this afternoon. Police Inspector Wendly Carter says the injured man was transported to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital by ambulance. The Barbados Workers' Union is highlighting the critical need for continuous training for seafarers. This follows the Union's participation in a two-day conference organised by the International Transport Workers' Federation (ITF). As public schools close for the summer holidays, the National Summer Camp is being positioned as an avenue through which young Barbadians will be occupied. The Ministry of Youth, Sports and Community Empowerment will be hosting over 40 camps across Barbados, including one for people with disabilities in partnership with the National Disabilities Unit. Youth Commissioner and Coordinator of the National Camps Programme, Carolyn Garnes, says there have been many success stories since the introduction of the camps. Ms. Garnes says through collaboration with other Ministries and corporate Barbados the camps will cater to several disciplines. The Christ Church Girls School is the winner of the inaugural Barbados Light and Power Battle of the Bots competition. The coding and robotics competition was open to primary school students. After months of collaborative work, it came to a climax at the Samuel Jackman Prescod Institute of Technology. Second place went to Blackman and Gollop, while Arthur Smith placed third.
