CBC WEATHER WATCH - June 30, 2024

Government has taken the necessary steps to prevent major flooding across the island as Hurricane Beryl approaches. Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Transport, Works and Water Resources Santia Bradshaw says both the Drainage Unit, as well as, sub contracted drainage teams have been on the ground clearing the drainage system in flood prone areas. She was speaking to members of the media at Woodbourn, St. Philip where a team was clearing the retention pond, which allows for the catchment of water, prior to it making its way into neighbouring communities. Ms. Bradshaw says while clearing the drainage systems will continue even after Hurricane Beryl has passed, she is encouraging Barbadians to pay attention to what is happening with the drains in their districts. Meanwhile, Minister of Home Affairs, Information and Public Affairs Wilfred Abrahams says the work being undertaken by the Drainage Unit at this time is a must since it is being predicted that the approaching system will be a massive hurricane. He adds that coming right behind Beryl is another system. After observing the work at Woodbourn, Ministers Bradshaw and Abrahams visited Oistins to observe the hurricane preparation work in progress at that location.
