Vendors who normally ply their trade at the start of the Grand Kadooment route in Warrens have been assured they will be accommodated along the new route. This was confirmed by Chief Executive Officer of the National Cultural Foundation, Carol Roberts. She was speaking to members of the media following a special meeting with vendors to present the new format for Bridgetown Market 2024. Ms. Roberts has also dismissed suggestions the decision to host Bridgetown Market in two separate locations was done without consultations with some vendors. The arts and crafts market will be held in public spaces in Bridgetown, while a tour was planned to look at some spaces along the Mighty Grynner Highway. While acknowledging a need for better communication with some vendors, Ms. Roberts sought to explain why the shift was necessary. Barbados' Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley is pressing for the continued capitalisation of the Loss and Damage Fund. That historic breakthrough was made at the UN Climate Change Conference COP27 at the end of 2022 and approved at COP28 in Dubai. Currently, Ms. Mottley notes it has not even met one billion in capital. Equally important for the Barbadian leader is adaptation funding. Ms. Mottley's comments came in a video address at a Global Leaders Forum organised by UN Trade and Development. It's being held under the theme "Charting a New Development Course in a Changing World". Ms. Mottley stated that Barbados, like all small island developing states, has been dealt a difficult hand in dealing with inherent vulnerabilities.
