Executive Director Elizabeth Riley says it's crucial member states and coordinating units are well prepared, not only for tropical cyclones but severe weather. The Caribbean Examinations Council has reversed its decision to suspend a nuimber of subjects. The decision has come after a meeting today with Ministers of Education from across the region. The CXC says it will continue to offer syllabuses for Caribbean Advanced Proficiency Examination (CAPE) Green Engineering, Electrical and Electronic Engineering Technology. Additionally, it will continue to offer Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate (CSEC) Agricultural Science (double award) and Industrial Technology - the Mechanical Engineering option. Registrar and CEO Dr. Wayne Wesley made the announcement at a press conference. He says CXC is rolling out modern technology and science syllabuses. Meteorologists are warning that conditions are favourable for storms and hurricanes to form easier this hurricane season. Deputy Director of the Barbados Meteorological Services, Brian Murray shared the view during a press conference to mark the start of the Atlantic hurricane season. He revealed that the climate pattern known as La Nina will be a contributing factor. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration is predicting 17 to 25 named storms, of which 8 to 13 are forecast to become hurricanes, 4 to 7 of them major. Mr. Murray has also warned about more hot days ahead. Ambassador to CARICOM David Comissiong, who is the island's Non-Resident High Commissioner to St. Lucia, was recently in Castries where he presented his Letter of Credence to Governor General, Sir Errol Charles. Several meetings were also held between Ambassador Commisiong and government and opposition officials. Mr. Comissiong says there are a number of areas in which Barbados and St. Lucia can collaborate. He adds St. Lucia, along with countries of the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States, are important to Barbados for trade.
