An adult education programme will be soon be launched for individuals who left school at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic. Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley says Cabinet made the decision recently, mindful of the education gaps inflicted by lockdowns and other restrictions. The Prime Minister made the comments during the signing ceremony of the memorandum of understanding between the Erdiston Teachers' Training College (ETTC) and the Edmund W. Gordon Institute for Advanced Study Teachers' College, Columbia University. It was signed by ETTC Principal Dr. Colin Cumberbatch and Professor Christopher Emdin. Both of them hailed the importance of the agreement. Harrison College and Christ Church Foundation will clash in the final of the BCA's Under-13 Cricket competition on Tuesday. HC booked their spot with an 84 run victory over St. Michael School in Friday's semi-final. Playing at Wanderers, HC posted 151 for five in their 35 overs, led by a knock of 61 from Captain Javion Batson and an unbeaten 34 from Franklyn Durant. Senior Environmental Health Officer for Vector Control, Dale Holligan is urging Barbadians to keep their surroundings clean ahead of the impending hurricane season. She was speaking during the National Mosquito Fair at Golden Square Freedom Park, in the City, where the life cycle, habitats, and more features of the mosquito were on display. Ms. Holligan says people need to ensure around their premises are kept clean and there is no water collection or put treatments into the water to prevent mosquito larvae. She advises those who live near empty lots to also check to prevent mosquito breeding. Ms. Holligan also urges land owners to upkeep their land so containers that may be harbouring water, are easily accessible. Barbadian students had the opportunity to join their friends in Gambia, Liberia and Nigeria to celebrate Africa Day 2024. Dressed in their African garb, Government officials, teachers and students gathered in the Roy Marshall Teaching Complex, at the University of the West Indies Cave Hill Campus. Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley is urging the private sector and other businesses to seize some of the opportunities being presented by the hosting of Cricket World Cup and other upcoming events. Games for the cricket tournament get underway here on June 2 with the final scheduled for June 29. It will be followed by the 50th anniversary of Crop Over while CARIFESTA and We Gatherin' will come off next year. Barbadians who may not be able to attend the upcoming ICC Men's T20 World Cup will soon get the opportunity to see firsthand the newly redeveloped Kensington Oval. That's the word from Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley. She told the media there will be an open afternoon at the Mecca very soon. Ms. Mottley also disclosed special provisions will be made to allow school children to attend select matches for free. The Queen Elizabeth Hospital continues to utilise various mediums as channels to communicate with and educate citizens about what's happening at the facility. Months on after the introduction of a newsletter called The Pulse, the QEH is taking to the airwaves through a weekly QEH Pulse radio show on Q100.7 FM. Communications Specialist, Shane Sealy revealed on CBC TV8's Mornin' Barbados the programme will air on Mondays from 11:00 a.m. until noon. Barbadians will get to engage with Hospital officials when the show commences on June 3. Manager of the Patient Relations Department of the QEH, Dr. Rhea Corbin-Harte says more topics will be added, some from questions posed to her department. Officials will also seek to address trends observed in patients. More men are coming forward to be tested for prostate cancer in Barbados. The revelation ahead of this weekend's Prostate Cancer Walk and Run of the Barbados Cancer Society from Coordinator Michelle Straughan. During a site visit by the organisers, the Barbados Cancer Society, Cemix, Barbados Police Service officials and the District Grand Lodge of Barbados, Scottish Constitution, the coordinator said a change in the testing procedure has resulted in an increase in the number of men being tested. A spokesman for the District Grand Lodge of Barbados, Scottish Constitution, Colonel Glyne Grannum said there is also a rise in number of men registered to take part in the event on Sunday. Tourism officials in Barbados remain optimistic as the country gears up for the summer tourism period. Minister of Tourism and International Transport Ian Gooding-Edghill says the forecast looks good. He expects the hosting of the upcoming ICC T20 matches will attract more visitors. The Tourism Minister says the growth strategy is to ensure more tourists visit Barbados during the summer. Mr. Gooding-Edghill led Barbados' delegation at the just-concluded Caribbean Travel Marketplace in Jamaica. He says the team was able to make strategic contacts to further expand and grow travel into Barbados.
