G4S Secure Solutions Barbados Limited has acquired J.E Security Systems and Services Incorporated. Plans for the takeover were announced earlier this year. An official signing was held at G4S Brighton St. Michael headquarters Friday. J.E Security has provided electronic security, patrol and response services for more than 30 years on the island. Managing Director of G4S, James Devers is confident the coming together of the two companies will strengthen Barbados security and fire safety industry.

The National Transformation Initiative (NTI) has reached close to 60 thousand learners but is looking to expand its reach. This is according to Director of the NTI, Dr. The Honourable Allyson Leacock, who says there have been learners as young as age nine, and as old as 74. She was speaking during the signing of a memorandum of understanding with the Barbados Workers' Union at its Solidarity House headquarters. Dr. Leacock adds the NTI was working on having the business community recognise certificates. Talks have started about the possibility of establishing a Barbados-based airline to facilitate direct flights to Africa. The revelation from retired Liberian Diplomat, Ambassador Llewellyn Witherspoon. Mr. Witherspoon, the organiser of the Sankofa Pilgrimage which brought hundreds of people with Barbadian roots from Liberia, was a guest on the People's Business. He has identified direct connectivity between the island and West Africa as a key issue that could challenge reintegration efforts. Ambassador Witherspoon says having to obtain a visa to transit through the UK, US or Europe is another challenge. According to him, it can be a costly endeavour and there is no guarantee a person's application will be granted. The Ambassador also confirmed plans are already being made to organise a similar trip for Barbadians to Liberia. He spoke about the profound impact of his visit to the community formerly known as Irish Town in St. Thomas, where his great-great-grandfather is believed to have last lived and worked. Following the visit of just over 250 Liberians on the Sankofa Pilgrimage, many of them are exploring the possibility of retiring and coming home. This was revealed by Head of the Sankofa Pilgrimage Ambassador Lorenzo Witherspoon during the Oistins by night Barbados-Liberia Night over the weekend. He adds Governemnt officials have given the assurance this is a move that will be both welcomed and supported. The National Training Initiative (NTI) and the Barbados Workers Union (BWU) has launched its e-learning hub partnership. This is the NTI's second three-year partnership with Coursera which means Barbadians now have unlimited access to the offerings. Director of NTI, Dr. the Honourable Allyson Leacock, explains the new memorandum of understanding is a promise, and a blueprint for empowerment through education. She was speaking during the launch at the BWU's Solidarity House. Meanwhile, BWU's General Secretary Toni Moore says in spite of the COVID-19 pandemic they looked for opportunities to expand the union's online training. She however adds they needed to do more to make people aware of the availability of the programmes. The completion date for the building is listed as Founders Day, May 10, 2025, which coincides with the 160th anniversary of the arrival of the Brig Cora. Renowned Liberian academic, Professor Dr. Ophelia Inez Weeks, shared details about the project this morning during a farewell service at the James Street Methodist Church. In his speech, the Minister in the Ministry of Economic Affairs, Senator Chad Blackman, thanked all who made the Sankofa Pilgrimage a reality noting the past week was productive and rewarding. Barbadians are being assured the soon-to-be-constructed South Coast Sewage Treatment Plant will be following the highest standards and embracing new technology. That matter was addressed last night by the Barbados Water Authority's General Manager Keithroy Halliday following a question raised during the town hall meeting at the Deighton Griffith School. The meeting was the second held on the topic of the new plant and it attracted an audience comprised of experts and residents.
