Government continues to address challenges in the care economy to ensure there is no discrimination. According to Minister in the Ministry of Economy and Investment Senator Chad Blackman, one of the ways they're seeking to ensure those working in the sector are appreciated, valued and have the necessary resources and tools, is through the recently passed Barbados Population Policy 2023. He says one of the critical goals of the policy is to promote and strengthen the care economy for the vulnerable population. Senator Blackman was addressing the High Level Policy Dialogue on Gender Equality. Meanwhile, United Nations Resident Coordinator for Barbados and the Eastern Caribbean Simon Springett says care work represents one third of female employment across Latin America and the Caribbean. Come December, 28 families will move into single unit homes in Bullen's Land, Holders Hill, St. James. The remaining eight units, set to be created in quadruplexes, will be completed in due course. This forms part of the houses to be built under the East West Project. This was revealed by Minister of Housing, Lands and Maintenance Dwight Sutherland, as he led off the Resolution: Section 5 Crown Lands (Vesting and Disposal) Act Cap 225, Holders Hill, St James. Additionally, he says part of the land has been earmarked for the Bullen's Children's Home for the Child Care Board, where work has already commenced. Mr. Sutherland says the final part of the East West Project to be completed is a housing solution at Dodds North, St. Philip, where 27 units are to be built. To date, the public and private sectors have built 1,323 houses; 974 by public and 349 by private collectively. Barbados' efforts to boost trade and ties have been hailed as a model member countries of the Organisation of American States can learn from. Highlighting efforts by the island to boost ties with Panama, Executive Director of the Barbados Chamber of Commerce and Industry Misha Loban-Clarke says a recent trade mission and the signing of a memorandum of understanding have served as a catalyst for deepening trade and economic cooperation. She suggests these efforts can be a guide for the OAS. Ms. Loban-Clarke's comments came as she participated in a regular meeting of the Inter-American Council for Integral Development. Barbados is one step closer to having its first green hydrogen power plant. The licence for the project, which is to be undertaken by developers HDF Energy - a leading global company in hydrogen energy - has been granted. The announcement was made by Minister of Energy and Business, Senator Lisa Cummins during the launch and ribbon cutting for the HDF Caribbean office. The plant will be the second of its kind developed by HDF in the region, with the first already under construction in French Guiana. Senator Cummins says the licence was the most important hurdle to be crossed. She says come January Barbados, along with its development partners, will be launching a wind project. Amazing Deals Wesley Hall cruised into the finals of the 2024 City of Bridgetown Cooperative Credit Union Limited Herman Griffith Primary Schools Cricket Competition, after they beat St. Gabriels by seven wickets in the semi-final #1 today. Sent in to bat at Lears, St. Gabriels posted 104 all out in 22.5 overs, led by Oliver King who scored an unbeaten 58. Tyair Harper four for nine and Samuel Harry with four for 20 were the main destroyers for Wesley Hall. CBC's Damien best was there for that innings. In reply Wesley Hall reached 105-3 in 20.2 overs. Effective December 2nd, all manufacturers of registration number plates will be required to register annually with the Barbados Licensing Authority. This is according to a recent amendment to Section 10B of the Road Traffic Act, Cap 295. Chief Licensing Officer Treca McCarthy-Broome says from Monday, the BLA will also begin accepting applications from existing vehicle registration plate manufacturers and new businesses interested in becoming plate manufacturers. The cost to register is $500, with an annual renewal fee of $250 once approved.
