Crews from the Barbados Water Authority have completed emergency repairs on mains at President Kennedy Drive, St Michael, and Baltic, Boscobelle, St Peter. Customers who were impacted should expect a gradual return to normal water pressure. Earlier today, a ruptured main sent hundreds of gallons of water into the road and around the shop. Traffic slowed to a crawl. (Video by Reco Moore)

A bust of Barbados Olympian James 'Jim' Wedderburn, has been unveiled at the Barbados Olympic Association's Museum. Wedderburn was Barbados' first Olympic medallist, winning Bronze as part of the British West Indies 1600 metre relay team at the 1960 Summer Olympics held in Rome, Italy. The unveiling was attended by fomer BOA President Steve Stoute, current President Sandra Osbourne, and Honorary International Olympic Committee member Sir Austin Sealy. Wedderburn was delighted to be recognised in this manner. Director of the Caribbean Wax Museum, Arthur Edwards, notes the bust was originally earmarked for Wedderburn's alma mater, but will rest at the BOA Museum. Defending champions Pinelands have taken a huge advantage over CAM Smart Assurance City United Celtics after last night's game one of the BABA President's Cup semifinals. Playing at the Wildey Gym, Pinelands got over Celtics 91-53. In game one of the other semifinal series, Burger King Clapham Bulls drew first blood 83-71 over Fusionz Boutique Station Hill Cavaliers. Both game 2s in the semis are tomorrow at the Gym. The rules for this tournament see a two-game semifinal, with the winner of each series determined by their combined totals. Government will be launching a National Taskforce on Literacy next week. Minister of Education, Technological and Vocational Training Kay McConney, says the Taskforce will be headed by Dr. Sylvia Henry from the University of the West Indies Cave Hill Campus. She was at the time speaking about closer collaboration with the Labour Ministry during the Estimates Debate. Meanwhile the Ministry of Labour is embarking on its own literacy initiative as it looks to work with the Education Ministry. Barbados is working on a draft gender policy which will hopefully be completed and ready for approval by Parliament by April. Director of the Bureau of Gender Affairs William Warner says it is being done in conjunction with UN Women and the Institute for Gender and Development Studies. He says the Bureau will be working a lot more with non-governmental organisations and in the next financial year, they will be increasing subventions to these groups by more than 300%. Mr. Warner says the focus will be on entrepreneurship through community-based projects. NAPSAC 2024 got underway today at the Coleridge and Parry and Alexandra Schools with the field events competition. Christ Church Girls and St. Giles were the winners of the Holiday Bermudez James Wedderburn Zone. In the Girls' section, Christ Church won with 115 points, 67 points ahead of St. Giles' Primary on 48, while St. Lucy were third on 39. Then in the Boys' section, St. Giles were winners with 88, just three ahead of St. Stephen's, while St. Lucy were third with 54. Officials are still working on the Rubis Andrea Blackett Zone results.
