An audiologist is highlighting some of the signs parents should look out for to determine if their child has a hearing problem. Dr. Mariella Stabler was a guest on Mornin' Barbados, ahead of a health fair hosted by the Baha'i Faith in Barbados, of which she is a member. The health fair runs from 3 to 5 p.m. today, as the Bahai Faith begins the festival Ofa Ayyám-i-há, during which members focus on fellowship, feasting and acts of service. In observance of this, the fair, being held at the National Baha'i Centre in 2nd Avenue Belleville, will feature free hearing screenings, as well as blood pressure and blood sugar checks. A paediatrician and neonatalogist is warning about the possibility of an outbreak of contagious diseases such as measles. Dr. Clyde Cave's warning comes amid declining rates of childhood vaccination. Barbados is expected to see the instant formation of at least one weather event this year. Minister of Home Affairs and Information, Wilfred Abrahams says the prediction has come from Director of the Barbados Meteorological Services, Sabu Best. Mr. Abrahams says Barbados is increasingly being affected by weather systems occurring as early as May, ahead of the official start of the Atlantic hurricane system. As a result, he reveals Government will be starting its preparations earlier. A commitment has been made by the Ministry of Youth and Community Empowerment, to build a stable and cohesive society through the empowerment and involvement of youth and communities. This is the word from the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Youth, Sports and Community Empowerment Francine Jordan. She was speaking at a Church Service to mark the 29th anniversary of the Community Independence Celebrations. Ms Jordan stated that she believes the building of the community can help with the social and economic development of Barbados. She also heralded the Community Independence Celebrations as one that engenders patriotism. A 17-year-old youth is counting his lucky stars this evening after being rescued from a well over 30 feet deep at Alleynedale in St. Lucy. According to reports the youngster, whose identity was not released up until news time, fell into an open well at the St. Lucy plantation, just after two this afternoon. Officials tell CBC News he was rescued around 3 p.m. by fire officers summoned to the scene. In total ten fire officers under the command of Divisional Officer Patrick Edwards responded. Three of those firemen were lowered into the well which was partially filled with water and affected the rescue. CBC understands the young man, who was visibly shaken, was transported to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital by ambulance, complaining of pains in his shoulder. He also had several visible bruises on his body. Public service vehicle operators want to meet with Government before legislation to control the sector is introduced. The message from Director of Public Communications and Public Affairs of the Alliance Owners of Public Transport, Mark Haynes. He's been reacting to Transport Minister Santia Bradshaw's announcement she wants new Transport Authority legislation proclaimed as soon as possible. There has been full admission from the association there are wrong-doers in the sector. Mr. Haynes is calling on them to exercise discipline in how they transport passengers. Sandals Hotel could be hit with a class action lawsuit by several frustrated residents of Dover, Christ Church over the operations of its laundry. For the past eight years residents at 4th Avenue, Dover have been complaining repeatedly about the loud, continuous, humming noise emitting from the laundry; the circulation of lint and fumes and more recently a toxic odour. After writing numerous letters to management of the fivestar luxury hotel as well as the Environmental Protection Department (EPD); the Ministry of Health; the Prime Minister’s Office and the Ministry of the Environment, to no avail, they have hired an attorney to file a lawsuit.(Video by Maria Bradshaw)

Government spending will not be increasing by more than a billion dollars in the new financial year. Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley says the figure shared in a press release on Tuesday from the Ministry of Finance was an error.
