Moved by what it sees as a broken society and in a bid to retain its numbers the local Methodist church is working to get more Barbadians back into church. It will be doing so through the James Street Come Back to Church campaign. Superintendent Minister of the James Street-Speightstown Circuit Reverend Derrick Richards says it will be a journey, that will not only enhance lives but the community. Reverend Richards who is also Bishop of the South Caribbean District of the Methodist Church in the Caribbean and Americas, says the church intends to focus on children and the youth. Speaking on Mornin' Barbados he said music and the arts will be utilised as part of the outreach. After observing one minute's silence for the passing of agricultural stalwarts Gregory 'Big G' Yearwood and Alvin Romeo, the Agriculture official told the gathering new elements have been added to Agrofest 2024 and it is a show for everyone. Head of the Barbados Alliance to End Homelessness Kemar Saffrey says they are encountering a strange situation, where some people are actually trying to book ahead specific time frames in the shelter, in anticipation of becoming homeless. He made the comment as the Alliance hosted a discussion at the Courtney Blackman Grand Salle of the Central Bank on the topic of 'The Impact of Homelessness on Bridgetown". Mr. Saffrey says under the circumstances there's a need to re-evaluate the social services in the island since the shelter and its staff are limited in what they can do to help the increasing number of people going on the streets for different reasons.
