A lion-hearted performance from tennis player Kaipo Marshall ensured Barbados will stay in Davis Cup World Group II after they defeated hosts Jamaica 3-2 on Sunday. Marshall dispatched Jamaica's Rowland Phillips 6-4,1-6, 6-2, after the tie was locked at 2-all. The rain delayed the inventible after Marshall went up 4-love in the decisive third set and once play resumed he polished off the contest in two hours and 10 minutes of action. Approximately 230 exhibitors are confirmed for this year's Agrofest. The update from Logistics and Operations Coordinator Thedore Fraser. He was speaking to CBC News during a site visit at Queen's Park this morning. Mr. Fraser says the number represents an increase when compared to last year's exhibition. Mr. Fraser has confirmed there will also be a number of overseas exhibitors from Suriname and Guyana. He says the youth will also be well represented. The organisers of the Community Independence Celebrations have been asked to consider increasing the rewards for participants. The call has come from the Minister Of Youth, Sports and Community Empowerment, Charles Griffith. He was speaking during a ceremony to recognise the 2022 and 2023 Parish Ambassadors, Attendants and Parish Independence Committees. Mr Griffith believes it is one way to keep the programme attractive and ensure its continued success. Government is open to the possibility of introducing conjugal visitations for the spouses of inmates at Dodds Prison. Word of this from Minister of Home Affairs and Information Wilfred Abrahams. However, he notes that to date such a demand was not one highly requested from prisoners or their representatives. He says Government is keen to enforce all best practices at the state-run penal institution, Dodds Prison, bringing it in line with the standards obtained internationally. Minister Abrahams made the revelation during the current affairs programme, 'One on One', on CBC TV8 produced by the Public Affairs Department. Minister Abrahams says for some time conjugal visitation was not part of the culture of what exist in this region. He says of primary interest was the rehabilitation of prisoners to make a positive contribution when they reintegrate back into society. However, he says society is changing. Karen Greenidge is publicly appealing for the third time for housing assistance for her family. The 52-year-old woman who lives at Westbury Road, St Michael, and whose family is considered to be living below the poverty line said the small one-bedroom house which she and her seven-member family occupy was unsuitable and unliveable. Pollster and Political Analyst Peter Wickham, has applauded the Democratic Labour Party's (DLP) appointment of a shadow cabinet. DLP leader Dr Ronnie Yearwood announced the portfolios on Friday, retaining economic affairs for himself. Former ministers Michael Lashley and Richard Sealy are included. Former Commissioner of Police Grantley Watson passed away on Saturday. Mr Watson led the Barbados Police Force from 1995 to 2003 and subsequently went on to head the Regional Security System as its Executive Director. Paying tribute today was former Attorney General Sir David Simmons, who had high praise for the former commissioner. He recalled that through a meeting with Mr Watson during a trip to a UN conference in Egypt, they discussed the setting up of a task force on crime prevention, which is now called the Criminal Justice Research Unit. Sir David sent his condolences to Watson's family and concluded that the loss will not only be felt in Barbados but across the Caribbean.
