The all-clear has been given for the occupation of a classroom at Mount Tabor Primary School, after a janitor fell through the floor on Wednesday. It was issued by Gregory Hazzard of Mahy Ridley Hazzard Engineers Ltd., following an inspection of the immediate works carried out on the pre-fabricated building housing two classrooms. Mr. Hazzard says it was determined that the construction was carried out in accordance with the drawings provided, including the use of 1-inch thick concrete board sheets on timber joist, for the floor. In the area where the incident occurred, there was a hole approximately 18 inches in diameter in the mode of a punching shear failure, which would normally occur as a result of a heavy point load, or from an impact load. In the absence of both of these occurrences, Mr. Hazzard determined that the concrete board was "defective", and took away samples for further assessment.
