Barbadians are being lauded for their generosity in coming forward this yuletide season to assist needy families across the country. This from Social Development Project Manager for the One Family Programme Nicole Daniel, who has reported increasing interest from individuals and businesses in assisting families challenged by the economic times. Ms. Daniel says they welcome all donations this Christmas to assist in their 1000 Families drive. She made the remark during a press conference at the Ministry of People Empowerment and Elder Affairs where a number of care packages were presented by iMart Pharmacy for the poor and vulnerable in Barbados. Ms. Daniel says Government is trying to engage families more in Barbados by harnessing a partnership which seeks to move away from the welfare mentality. Government remains sympathetic to the difficulties many Barbadians families are facing with regards to the high cost of living and is committed to do its part in shielding the poor and vulnerable wherever possible. This sentiment from Minister of People Empowerment and Elder Affairs Kirk Humphrey. He says through the 1000 Families Programme, it is hoped that Government would alleviate a lot of that hurt many people have been facing. He says they have almost identified the 1000 families in Barbados meeting the criteria of the programme. Minister Humphrey made the comment as he accepted a donation of several care packages from representatives of iMart Pharmacies at the headquarters of his office in Warrens. He says it is the desire of Government to link more of these businesses showing promise with vulnerable families.
