A mother is tonight breathing a sigh of relief. This after her son, 15-year-old Cheston Collis who was missing for several days, was found late this evening. Lashandy Studor, was too overwhelmed to speak to the media at the scene this evening. However earlier today, Ms. Studor met with CBC News at Rices, St. Philip where the search continued for her son who was reported missing on Friday night. At the time she made an impassioned plea for her son to return home. However, some hours later she made contact with CBC News screaming "we find him!". She only managed to say that Cheston was found at his Diamond Valley, St. Philip home in the gallery of a vacant upstairs apartment. Cheston's guardian Beresford Hunte declined to speak and directed all comments to Ms. Studor. Medical personnel tended to Cheston at the scene, but he has been taken to seek further medical treatment. Barbados has warned the world will face more complex problems, if countries do not act with urgency in addressing the climate crisis. This message was conveyed by Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley. She was the featured speaker for a discussion on International Financial Architecture Reform for the global south. The discussion was organised by Global Economy and Development at Brookings and the Boston University Global Development Policy Centre. The Prime Minister is leading a delegation at the ongoing 2024 annual meetings of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank in Washington D.C. Ms. Mottley, who chaired a meeting of the climate vulnerable group and scientists, made a call for a global methane agreement, given the impact of the gas on the climate compared to carbon. Ms. Mottley says the climate crisis, war, crime and even pandemics can catapult countries back into poverty. She wants climate-vulnerable economies shock-proofed. The third edition of the Joseph Payne Memorial Secondary Schools Field Events Circuit will be held at one facility this year instead of the traditional two venues. The one-day competition is set for December 11 at Coleridge and Parry. Organiser and Chairman of CW Foundation Inc - Charles Walcott - is hoping for an increase in participants. Each school is allowed to enter two athletes per event per category, and Mr. Walcott is calling on physical education teachers to encourage more students to get involved in field events. The event has the full backing of the National Sports Council, and Deputy Director Emerson Bascombe, believes it's only a matter of time before a local star athlete will emerge from the field events. A partnership between Barbados and The City of New York is expected to better position the island to fight crime, among other things. The agreement was signed today by Minister in the Attorney General's Office with responsibility for Crime Prevention, Corey Lane, at his office. It ushers in a Sister City relationship, for which Minister Lane says discussions have been ongoing for some time between himself, deputy high Commissioner to London Mackie Holder, who is the former Consul General of New York, and present Consul General Lorenzo Harewood. Already information exchanges have started between Barbados and New York, but people exchanges and tours will begin January next year. Minister Lane says the signing of the agreement coincides with the centennial anniversary of the late Shirley Chisholm. He adds that there are also other sister city agreements to come on stream with Panama, South Carolina, and areas on the African continent.
