There is concern about an explosion of renal disease in Barbados in the last few years. According to the Acting Chief Operations Officer at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH) Anthony Harris, three new dialysis patients are admitted weekly. He says there are 164 patients on record at the QEH and an additional 60 outsourced to Sils Dialysis Barbados and the St John Polyclinic. He was speaking during a donation of two more dialysis machines to the QEH's artificial kidney unit by the Barbados International Business Association Charity in honour of the late Ben Arrindell. President of BIBA Marlon Yarde says this is their second donation of dialysis machines to the QEH. It is valued at over 85 thousand dollars, bringing their contribution to the artificial kidney unit to over $200,000. This is made possible with funds raised through the BIBA Charity Ben Arrindell International Golf Classic. This year's fundraiser comes off on November 1 at the golf club at Durant's, Christ Church.
