The days of police officers attending minor accidents such as fender benders will come to a screeching halt on September 15. Instead, motorists will have to call their insurance company to handle these matters. Following months of notification, the roll-out of the new Road Traffic Accident Investigation Policy was officially announced yesterday by Attorney General Dale Marshall and Commissioner of Police Richard Boyce at a press conference held at the Henry Forde And David Simmons Legal Judicial Complex. A Community Police Officer is sending a warning about the consumption of alcohol by minors and the usage of illegal drugs. Station Sergeant Jamal Mahon laid out his case while speaking to recipients of the Togetherness Social Group's back-to-school drive. The Togetherness Social Group which is celebrating its 15th anniversary has awarded thirty eleven plus achievers with vouchers. President Patricia Parris says the vouchers are worth a substantial amount and will be used to purchase back-to-school supplies for the students who are about to start secondary school next month. Women are being reminded that God has designed them for a purpose. The reminder is coming from the Chief Executive Officer of the Small Business Association Dr. Lynette Holder. Holder was speaking on the topic of women fulfilling their purpose when she delivered the keynote address at the Women of Excellence and Empowerment Ministries, King's Daughter graduation ceremony and makeover model presentation, held at the Lloyd Erskine Sandiford Centre. The Women of Excellence Empowerment Ministries empower individuals through teaching, training and the power of the spoken word and the Holy Spirit to reach their maximum potential physically, spiritually and socially and to understand God's purpose for their lives. President Andrea Harris is urging the graduates from age 13 to 79 years old who completed 15 weeks of a holistic journey to remember that they are destined for greatness. A four-car collision in St. Michael, along Black Rock Main Road and the junction with Eagle Hall, is causing challenges for motorists. The Barbados Police Service notes that "there is a minor collision along Black Rock Main Road, Saint Michael, between Terrific Tiles and the junction with Eagle Hall, involving four (4) vehicles". Police are asking that "motorists choose an alternative route until investigations are completed and the road is cleared," as the road is completely blocked. CBC News understands that one person was injured and taken for treatment by private car. ???? Barbadians are keen on learning to swim and are taking advantage of classes offered by the National Sports Council. Since expanding its Swim 4 Life programme to accommodate citizens 40 years and over, the response has been overwhelming. As of Wednesday, 200 people have already signed up for both the children's and masters programmes. The swim programme for children commences on Monday and will run for three weeks. The masters will get underway on September 9 and end on November 19. Speaking on Morning Barbados Coordinator, Tracey Leacock said the programme has been a success. Second in Command Supervisor of Lifeguards at the National Conservation Commission, Rawle Eversley says while participants in the masters expressed confidence in the programme, some are nervous to take to the sea. He says there are a number of reasons for them to take up swimming. A Government Minister is calling on parents to do more for the betterment of their children. The plea from Minister of Labour, Social Partnership Relations and the Third Sector Colin Jordan. He was speaking after a tour of Parliament by graduates of four primary schools. Mr. Jordan adds government will soon be mobilising a cadre of people to go into the communities to help parents. The University of the West Indies has launched a first of its kind graduate business school. It will focus on leadership within the context of the Sustainable Development Goals. The new International School for Development Justice is funded by the Inter-American Development Bank and endorsed by the United Nations. It has been set up to respond to the need to educate and empower current and future activists and leaders. UWI Vice-Chancellor Professor Sir Hilary Beckles says it is also designed to export Caribbean knowledge. The new International School for Development Justice has the support of Trinidad and Tobago's Minister of Education, Nyan Gadsby-Dolly. She says it's a proud moment for UWI as it moves into the global online education market. A St. James woman is dead tonight after the motorcycle on which she was the pillion rider collided with a police vehicle. The accident occurred along Welches Road in Christ Church earlier this afternoon. According to Police Communication and Public Affairs Officer Inspector Rodney Inniss the deceased woman has been identified as 22-year-old Tishana Jamelia Ward of Husbands. Inspector Inniss says grieving family members of the deceased woman identified her body at the scene. The roadway was closed, affecting traffic going into and out of Oistins forcing motorists to use alternative routes.
