Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley is calling on Barbadians to wear their national colours tomorrow, August 9, 2024, in support of Sada Williams. Williams will become the first woman to represent Barbados in an Olympics track final, when the Women's 400m final comes off at 2:00 p.m. Prime Minister Mottley has called on the nation to come together to support Williams, and let her know the country is with her in spirit. Williams qualified for the final on August 7 with a time of 49.89 in her semifinal heat. Head of the Barbados Agricultural Society is appealing for more veterinary professionals in Barbados. Chief Executive Officer of the Barbados Agricultural Society James Paul says there are not enough vets graduating to meet the needs of the farming industry. He made the appeal during an interview with the media on the sidelines of Pinnacle Feeds Seminar. Mr. Paul says as Barbados seeks to boost its agricultural industry, young people should be encouraged to seek to pursue veterinary careers. Barbados' Olympic medal hope, Sada Williams, is into the final of the Women's 400 metres at the Paris Olympic Games. Williams is the first Bajan woman to make an Olympic track final. She was fastest of the non-automatic qualifiers from this evening's semifinal #3, placing third in 49.89 seconds. Speaking after the race Sada admitted that it was not as easy as she anticipated. Williams says she feels good mentally and physically, and has appealed to Bajans to throw their full support behind her come Friday. CBC TV8 will have a special Sada Watch on Friday from 1:45 p.m. before the final, with added analysis after the event. Meanwhile, CBC Sports took to the streets after Sada's semifinal run. In response to concerns from local farmers, Pinnacle Feeds Ltd. is reintroducing pig starter feed to the market. Feed Plant Manager John Gardner says the product, which was last produced in 2002, has been specifically designed to meet the digestive requirements of a young animal. Mr. Gardner made the announcement to distributors at the Pinnacle Feeds seminar. He says the company wants to ensure piglets are managed well at this critical stage. More people are taking an interest in the courses offered at the Samuel Jackman Prescod Institute of Technology. And Principal Ian Drakes says already for this year, all courses are fully subscribed with over 500 students. He says there are a number of people on a waiting list to start classes on August 26. Mr. Drakes says several of the students on job attachment are asked to send formal letters of application to become permanent members of staff following their training. He says the electrical, air conditioning and refrigeration fields are thriving and he's now looking to include a third cohort in those particular fields. Additionally, the principal says more people are also returning to pursuing trades, which he says has been reinforced by the COVID-19 pandemic. Eugene Ince has a hundred reasons to celebrate, having marked her 100th birthday recently. The centenarian was treated to a luncheon at the Savannah Beach Club by family and friends. Ms. Ince is a mother to eight children, three of which have since passed, and dotes on her grandchildren and great-grands. Grandson Anthony Peters recalls how his grandmother raised him over his 44 years and taught him some valuable life lessons. A former seamstress, Ms. Ince is a nurturer and was always willing to give her last. And son Michael Ince says while she was a disciplinarian, she was always fair in her methods.

Kenville ‘Kab Layne’ was laid to rest today at Coral Ridge Memorial Gardens. The former National and Paradise FC coach was a stalwart and beloved son of the local footballing community. He was also a key factor in the development of many youth programmes and competitions and was part of the National Sports Council football programme for the last 25 years. (Video by Dwayne Gibbs)

A New Tune of the Crop winner was also crowned after yesterday's Grand Kadooment. Brucelee Almightees song "Tomorrow" was played 16 times before the judges for Kadooment. Lil Rick with Bam Bam and Tionne Hernandez with 'Starter Pack' tied for second place. This victory comes hours after his popular track 'Tomorrow' was also declared the People Monarch in a separate competition. The young Soca Artiste is pleased with his win and notes the song was written with the fans in mind.
