She says she is hoping that one of the finalists from her tent defeats reigning king iWeb to bring home the crown. Ms. Rice says while the calypsonians will put in the work to prepare for the big stage, winning the competition will not be a walk in the park. The draft process for the inaugural Prime Minister's Cup got going at the Barbados Football Association headquarters in Wildey. Maxwell Football Club was given first dibs as various teams made their picks for the semi-pro competition, which carries a cash prize of $100,000 Bds for the winners. The action kicks off on August 25th with 24 teams – 10 from the Barbados Football Association Premier League, the top six from Division 1, and the top four from Divisions 2 and 3, based on 2023 standings. Tournament Coordinator, Craig Stuart explained the process of selecting players. Project Manager Shane Archer reaffirmed the aim of the tournament and its impact on society. The full list of players selected during the draft process will be finalised this weekend. History has been created with the announcement of this year's 18 finalists for the Pic-O-De-Crop competition. In an unprecedented development, nine of the finalists are from one tent, the All Stars Calypso Tent, and among the 18 is a blind contender. The line up was decided through a draw this evening at Courtesy Garage. Those vying for the crown include a number of former and current Junior Calypso Monarchs. The show comes off at the National Botanical Gardens on August 2nd. Chief Executive Officer of the National Cultural Foundation Carol Roberts says the competition is extremely important to the preservation of intangible aspects of the Crop Over Festival. To add a bit of spice to the pot, she announced the final competition will be broadcast live and free of cost. The winner will take home a 2024 e-powered Nissan X-Trail valued at $136,995 or a cash prize of $100,000. The Ministry of People Empowerment and Elder Affairs and the National Transformation Initiative are on a mission to empower community workers, specifically those who work in the Home Help and Community Elder Care Programme. This is as a result of a memorandum of understanding between the National Assistance Board and the National Transformation Initiative. These workers will join over 800 staff of the Grantley Adams International Airport who were the first cohort to be involved in this programme. On July 1st, 2024, a deadly Category 5 hurricane charged through the Caribbean, claiming lives, livelihoods and homes. Hurricane Beryl the second named storm but first hurricane in the 2024 Atlantic season became the earliest Category 5 ever recorded in the Atlantic. Team Hibiscus from Trinidad and Tobago are the winners of the Women's T6 Classic against Barbados Blazers. Hibiscus won the final game to take the series 2-1.
