Following the successful continuation of efforts to strengthen youth justice initiatives, stakeholders have reconvened for a pivotal follow-up workshop under the Opportunity to Advance and Support Youth for Success (OASYS) project. The workshop, held on February 13, 2024 aimed to address crucial aspects of diversion, rehabilitation, and reintegration programming, building upon discussions initiated during the January session.

Arrangements for the operationalisation of an Intra-Regional Ferry Service are finally underway, after many years of conceptualisation by the Caribbean Community (CARICOM). This according to a media release by the Ministry of Works and Transport which confirmed that on Thursday, Minister of Works and Transport Rohan Sinanan hosted a meeting with a team of high powered officials to discuss the project. The main objective of the ferry service is to promote regional food security by having the free movement of agricultural goods and services throughout the Region. The meeting also focused on the issues surrounding possible pre-clearance in the three areas of customs, immigration and plant quarantine.

A 21 year old man who was charged with the murder of Corporal Marlone Mitchell was today remanded into custody. Anthony Hopkins, of Quarry Road, Valencia, appeared virtually today before Master Subrina Shah of the High Court in Couva, charged with the murder of 43 year old Corporal Mitchell. He was remanded until his next court appearance which is to be determined. Corporal Mitchell was killed between the hours of 1am and 2am on Friday 9th February while he was with friends at a bar in the Couva area. He was in his private capacity at the time. Hopkins was arrested on February 9th after he and his attorney walked into the Freeport Police Station. He was subsequently taken for medical attention. He was charged on February 15th. Police also reportedly seized the fallen officer’s firearm.

A disagreement over the way to handle a spate of robberies at Massy Stores was the outcome of a meeting between the company's management team and the union that represents the interest of workers. The announcement was made at a Media Conference called by the Contractors and General Workers Trade Union after a string of robberies traumatised employees working for the superstore chain.
