Export Saint Lucia Announces Return of Saint Lucia Business Expo for Independence 45 Export Saint Lucia, in collaboration with the Ministry of Commerce, Manufacturing, Business Development, Cooperatives and Consumer Affairs under the auspices of the Government of Saint Lucia, is poised to play a pivotal role in the festivities marking Saint Lucia's 45th Independence Anniversary. Taking the spotlight once more, the agency is gearing up to host the second edition of the National Business Expo. Building on the triumph of the inaugural showcase, this year's event promises to be even more spectacular, featuring a lineup of 90 local exhibitors—a significant increase to that of the previous year. The businesses, representing diverse sectors, will showcase a wide array of offerings, ranging from unique handmade crafts to rejuvenating wellness products. This much-anticipated event is slated to take place on February 16 and 17, 2024, at Constitution Park and William Peter Boulevard in Castries. It is being organized in partnership with the Events Company of Saint Lucia and the Independence Standing Committee. "We are thrilled to announce the return of the National Business Expo, a platform that celebrates the richness of Saint Lucian entrepreneurship. This event is not only a showcase of our vibrant business community but also an opportunity for local businesses to connect with a broader market," said Sunita Daniel, Chief Executive Officer of Export Saint Lucia. The Independence 45 edition promises a distinctive experience. In a heartwarming gesture of compassion and solidarity, the Taiwanese Embassy via the NGO Simply Help Foundation has again extended a helping hand to scores of marginalized and less fortunate households in Saint Lucia, donating close to US $100,000 worth of essential items to the Ministry of Equity, Social Justice, and Empowerment, for distribution. The short yet significant handover ceremony took place on January 18, 2024. Among the diverse array of items provided were clothing, shoes, toys, sporting equipment, and sanitary wipes, reflecting a thoughtful and comprehensive effort to address the needs of vulnerable communities.

Eleven artistes are moving forward to the Chutney Soca Monarch Finals where they'll have the opportunity to compete for the title of Chutney Soca Monarch King and Queen. The Semi Final round of the 2024 Chutney Soca Monarch was held at the RIG in San Fernando on Saturday January 20th. Daddy Chinee will be defending his crown at the Grand Final which is carded for Saturday February 10th at Skinner Park in San Fernando. The artistes competing for the top prizes of Chutney Soca Monarch are Daddy Chinee, Nigel Gobin, Adesh Samaroo, Rick Ramoutar, Kernal Roberts, Neeshad Sultan, Rehanah Gopaul, D Songstar Sangeeta, Rawythee Ramroop, Shazzie Ramsumair, Vanessa Ramoutar, and Kavita Ramkissoon. The ladies in the competition will also vie for the coveted title of Queen of Chutney Soca.

Barbados through the Facilitation of International Maritime Traffic Bill 2024 is correcting legislative deficiencies identified by the International Maritime Organisation. Minister of Tourism and International Transport, Ian Gooding-Edghill in moving Debate on the Bill says it will enhance the island's reputation as an international shipping nation. He says those involved in shipping have nothing to fear with the legislation. However, he adds there are several fines for those who do not follow the Act when enacted. The Barbados Police Service has launched an unnatural death investigation after two men were shot dead early this morning in St. Philip. Police in a statement say the incident took place about 12:20 a.m. at a yam field situated at Three Houses Plantation. They say the owner of the field, which was under lease from the plantation, was reportedly patrolling after having previous issues of theft from the said yam field. He came across two men harvesting his crops and confronted them. An altercation occurred resulting in the two unknown men being shot. Both died at the scene. Meanwhile, Barbadians have been reacting to news of the deaths of the alleged crop thieves. CBC News spoke with a farmer, Cyprian Blades. Officer in the Ministry of Agriculture, Barney Callender, is urging people to desist from engaging in praedial larceny.
