Last evening, we shared some highlights from the TTOC's Gold Foundation Charity Walk, which consisted of 26.2 miles. The event recorded its highest participation this year with eighty participants - overtaking the previous record of 53. Brian "De Action Man" Talma has received a commitment from an international water sports brand to help with his push for beach culture in Barbados. Talma, who is now sponsored by German company "Core", says the same company has pledged over 20 thousand dollars to help train local youth in wing foiling, windsurfing and paddle boarding. However, the equipment will only be made available to Barbados if Government and corporate Barbados assist in setting out the framework for a structured programme. Speaking to CBC Sports at the Action Beach Shop, Talma says it will form part of a project that he started years ago - "The Beach Culture World Tour" - to help underprivileged children within communities. Talma, who will be inducted into the windsurfing hall of fame this year in France, has reaped success from a similar project in the Dominican Republic and Hawaii. He says ideally he would love to target schools in the Christ Church area. The Togetherness Social Club decided to treat members today after all of last year's activities. It was truly a time for camaraderie as they started a long day which began at 6 a.m. with a special walk, then to breakfast and back in the afternoon for dominoes, board games, a drink, and more food. Members even got messages from Nicola Yarde and Ahfeeyah Grant. The festivities will continue into the evening. Courtney Downes says the early morning fun walk was well supported. President Patricia Parris says 2024 will be a big year for them as it's a major anniversary year. Secretary Rhonda Mayers says their club is one about active participation. Director of Cricket at C.W.I., Miles Bascombe, says selection to the West Indies "A" Team tours will be a pivotal piece of the pathway into the senior teams. While admitting that the "A" Team Cricket tours have been sporadic, the hope is to create more opportunities for players to advance their careers including at the academy level. The National Botanical Gardens was a hot spot today. Many families and friends took advantage of the lush grass and shady trees in the St. Michael national park, to have their food, drinks and fun to celebrate Errol Barrow Day. For many it was important that they mark the day with festivities. Some put up tents as well to keep their food covered while serving large numbers as some brief showers came.
