The IDF – Israel’s military - says three Israeli hostages who were mistakenly killed in Gaza by the Israeli military had been holding up a white cloth on a stick. An initial report by Israel’s military into the deaths found that the hostages were fired upon against Israel’s rules of engagement. Protests over the killings took place in Tel Aviv, with calls for the Israeli government to do more to bring home hostages from Gaza. Some British Army members who say they tried to vouch for Afghan special forces, were never contacted by the Ministry of Defence, an investigation by BBC Newsnight has found. Multiple sources have told the BBC that some people who offered to give Afghan soldiers references never heard back, and those troops are now in danger of being sent back to the Taliban. Many of the soldiers were subsequently denied help by a scheme designed to settle those in danger in the UK. About 200 members of Afghan special forces, trained and funded by the UK, currently living in Pakistan face imminent deportation to Afghanistan. The men were told they did not fall under the UK's Afghan Relocation and Assistance Policy (ARAP), which was designed to help those who served alongside the UK military.
