Join Ian King and guests as more than 3,000 jobs are to be axed at the country's biggest steelworks, it has been confirmed. The losses come as Tata Steel announced it was to press ahead with plans to close blast furnaces at the Port Talbot plant in South Wales. The steel giant in September confirmed details reported by Sky News that it had secured £500m of taxpayer cash to support the site's transition to cheaper, greener steel production to cut emissions and stem financial losses. Job cuts had been expected as part of the deal though 5,000 UK staff are due to remain within the wider UK operations following the agreement with the government. The redundancies, to be completed by March next year, will see three-quarters of the 4,000 staff on site put out of work. L’année 2024 démarre fort sur le plateau de "QR le débat" avec une annonce étonnante du PS et du MR. Une fois n’est pas coutume, "QR le débat" est revenu sur le pouvoir d’achat des Belges et les indexations automatiques des salaires. Une indexation que le PS et le MR notamment ne seraient pas contre de changer. En effet, tous les invités présents sur le plateau, à l’exception de la coordinatrice du service d’études de la CNE Clarisse Van Tichelen, s’accordent sur le fait que l’indexation automatique telle qu’elle est pensée aujourd’hui n’est plus optimale. Pour eux, il serait préférable de mettre sur pied une indexation automatique des salaires plus personnalisée. Comme le vice-président des Engagés Yvan Verougstraete, l’administrateur délégué de la FEB Pieter Timmermans estime qu’il faut conserver l’indexation de tous les salaires telle qu’on la connaît jusqu’à un certain montant. "Il faut oser penser à un système d’indexation de 2% par exemple jusqu’à 4.000 €, soit 80 € d’indexation. Et à partir de ce montant-là, l’indexation reste de 80€ pour tous les salaires supérieurs." "Il faut toujours être prudent quand on ouvre une boîte de Pandore", affirme le Secrétaire d’État à la Relance et aux Investissements, Thomas Dermine (PS) qui estime cependant qu’il est "légitime de se poser la question" : "L’index est une spécificité belge, une construction depuis 100 ans pour laquelle il y a une énorme vigilance politique. Il y a des questions d’égalité salariale qui se posent dans les entreprises et effectivement, je m’en pose quand je vois le salaire d’un CEO qui fait 80x celui du travailleur. Il y a un sans doute d’autres leviers que l’index pour avoir une convergence salariale. Seulement, je suis aussi sensible au fait que l’augmentation en pourcentage de l’index n’est pas juste. On ne consomme pas proportionnellement à son revenu. Je trouve donc qu’il y a quelque chose sur lequel travailler." "La protection de l’indexation est liée davantage à la consommation qu’à l’épargne", réagit Mathieu Michel (MR), Secrétaire d’État et adjoint au Premier ministre.
