Parts of the northeast U.S. were hit Tuesday by a snowstorm that cancelled and delayed flights, made roads slippery and prompted many school districts to cancel classes or switch to remote learning. More than 30 million people from West Virginia northeast into New England were under a winter storm warning as the Nor'easter pummeled parts of the area with as much as 6 inches of heavy, wet snow overnight, the National Weather Service said. The storm brings a conclusive end to a "snow drought" in New York City that lasted almost two years or more info, please go to https://globalnews.ca/news/10291080/us-northeast-winter-storm-cancelled-flights/ Subscribe to Global News Channel HERE: http://bit.ly/20fcXDc Like Global News on Facebook HERE: http://bit.ly/255GMJQ Follow Global News on Twitter HERE: http://bit.ly/1Toz8mt Follow Global News on Instagram HERE: https://bit.ly/2QZaZIB #GlobalNews #Snowstorm #US
Pakistan's political parties are engaging in coalition talks as the country looks set to get a new government. Shehbaz Sharif, leader of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), on Tuesday said that the party engaged in coalition talks as Pakistan looks set to get a new government. “We and our party are already engaged in talks with political parties who have bagged votes, whether it is MQM (Muttahida Qaumi Movement), PPP (Pakistan Peoples Party), JUI (Jamiat Ulema Islam) and other parties. Today I spoke to Sardar Khalid Magsi in Balochistan. We will, God willing, play our role because the country has to move forward.” Sharif said. Meanwhile, during a press conference in Islamabad, the Chairman of the PPP, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, stated that his party would not join the government. However, he expressed support for the PML-N to form a minority government to end the stalemate that arose after the inconclusive elections held in the country. Speaking in Washington, D.C., on Tuesday, U.S. President Joe Biden blasted former president Donald Trump’s recent comments about NATO, calling them "dangerous" and "un-American" and saying they raised the stakes for the U.S. Congress to approve new funding to support Ukraine, Israel and Taiwan. Biden said Trump's comment made it more urgent that congress pass his long-stalled funding request to support Ukraine's defense against Russia, and that “history is watching.” "The rest of the world looks to us. The stakes were already high for American security before this bill was passed in the Senate last night," he said. "But in recent days, those stakes have risen. And that's because the former president has sent a dangerous and shockingly, frankly un-American signal to the world." Biden also called for Republican Speaker Mike Johnson to bring a Senate-passed US$95.34 billion military aid package for Ukraine, Israel and Taiwan to a vote in the House of Representatives. Residents of a downtown Toronto neighbourhood are calling on the municipal government to take action when it comes to a homeless encampment located in their community. The group, comprised of more than a dozen local businesses and residences, has penned a letter to Mayor Olivia Chow and other officials. It raises a number of significant safety concerns. It’s part of a growing number of concerns being raised by communities across the country about homeless encampments, which spurred the federal housing advocate to issue a report on Tuesday, calling for a plan to end homelessness and an end to forced evictions from the encampments. “Residents are experiencing fear, stress and anxiety from this encampment,” the letter reads in part. Residents say they have witnessed a number of incidents over the past several months alone, including an alleged physical assault on a female employee from a nearby business. Global’s Shallima Maharaj has the details.
