On Tuesday, President Joe Biden stated that the bipartisan immigration bill is failing due to “A simple reason: Donald Trump.” He urged lawmakers to have a "spine" and pass the much-needed measure. Biden said that Trump is against the bill because he believes it will negatively impact him politically saying that “He'd rather weaponize this issue than actually solve it.” Biden emphasized that the bipartisan bill is crucial as it proposes important solutions to fix America's broken immigration system. It is also the toughest and fairest law ever proposed concerning the border. President Biden called on Congress to pass a bill and get it to his desk immediately and stated that every day until November, the American people will be aware that “the only reason the border is not secure is because of Donald Trump and his MAGA Republican friends.” For more info, please go to https://globalnews.ca Subscribe to Global News Channel HERE: http://bit.ly/20fcXDc Like Global News on Facebook HERE: http://bit.ly/255GMJQ Follow Global News on Twitter HERE: http://bit.ly/1Toz8mt Follow Global News on Instagram HERE: https://bit.ly/2QZaZIB #GlobalNews #bidentrump #biden #immigration

Hurricanes are growing with intensity and power due to climate change, with warming oceans giving more fuel to the storms. A new peer-reviewed study is now arguing that with storms growing in strength, it may be time to reconsider the Saffir-Simpson scale used to classify the hurricanes. The worst-of-the-worst may need a potential Category 6 designation. The current system goes to Category 5 for storms with wind speeds of 156 mph or more. Category 6 would be for storms above 192 miles per hour, of which there have been five since 2013. But as Sean Previl reports, scientists say there's more to hurricanes than just the wind speed the scale measures and people need to pay attention to warnings and take heed for their own safety. The head of the American agency charged with keeping passenger planes safe told U.S. lawmakers Boeing’s internal safeguards may have failed and that its oversight system “is not working.” Facing questions from Congress on why some Boeing planes had loose bolts, why one plane’s nose wheel rolled away just before takeoff and why a door plug was ripped out of plane while in mid-air, Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) head Michael Whitaker told the House Aviation Committee there need to be changes. “I certainly agree the current system is not working because it’s not delivering safe aircraft, so we have to make changes to that,” he said, referring to Boeing’s internal oversight process. Whitaker told U.S. lawmakers the FAA is looking at increasing oversight and anything else that can be done to improve airplane safety. His appearance comes as the company faces fierce scrutiny over a series of apparent mechanical failures, like when a door plug blew off an Alaska Airlines Boeing MAX 9 plane mid-air on Jan. 5. Global’s Nathaniel Dove has the details. Bank of Canada Governor Tiff Macklem said in Montreal on Tuesday that the central bank is expecting the housing market will “rebound” this year amid expectations for interest rate cuts sometime in 2024, but warned that the outlook for home prices in the recovery comes with “considerable uncertainty.” While Macklem has maintained that the Bank of Canada expects to keep its key rate at current levels until underlying inflation shows clearer signs of easing, some forecasters and market watchers have penciled in rate cuts starting as early as April or June. Macklem also remarked that monetary policy is limited in its ability to influence the crisis of housing affordability. “We’re going to look at the whole economy… But we’re not targeting housing, we’re targeting inflation,” he added. The Bank of Canada has held its key rate steady at 5.0 per cent in four consecutive decisions following a rapid tightening cycle that saw it raise the cost of borrowing to tamp down inflation, which has cooled significantly over that period. High-interest rates make it harder for prospective homebuyers to afford a mortgage, pushing down demand in the market.
