Hundreds of pro-Palestinian protesters gathered downtown Toronto on Sunday for a rally. The mother of Canadian-Palestinian citizen journalist Mansour Shouman, who was allegedly abducted in Gaza last week, had a message for those in attendance. "This is the worst experience of my life,” Dr. Mai Hussein said. “Don't stop talking about Mansour until he comes back, promise me. Thank you all." Shouman, who is from Calgary, was working as a citizen journalist and aid worker in Gaza, was last heard from on Jan. 21. Global Affairs Canada says they are monitoring the situation. On World Cancer Day this Sunday, advocates worldwide raise awareness for prevention and ongoing research. Canadian Aimee Heroux, a breast cancer survivor, shares her story emphasizing the importance of early detection. Heroux says she always knew she had a family history of breast cancer which led her to get regular breast MRIs. In 2021, when she was diagnosed she says she almost missed her appointment because of COVID-19. Heroux was diagnosed with stage 1 breast cancer and had to undergo surgery as well as a round of radiation. She says nothing prepared her for how emotional the experience would be. The province has offered a $10 million compensation package for historic wrongs against the Sons of Freedom Doukhobors. It's in response to it's treatment of children from the Doukhobor community in the West Kootenays between 1953 to 1959, when about 200 children were taken and confined to facilities in New Denver, B.C., over a six-year period. A mother on Vancouver Island is ringing the alarm for other parents and guardians after she says a pill was found inside a bakery treat from Starbucks. Isabelle Piper said she went through a Starbucks drive-through on Thursday morning in Courtenay and decided to get her five-year-old son a cake pop treat. She said her son bit into it and said it tasted “funny.” When she grabbed it away from him, she said she discovered a red and blue pill. “When I went to give the cake pop to my other son, that is when I saw the pill,” she told Global News. “I immediately freaked out and pulled over.” Global's Cassidy Mosconi has the details. After months of trying to contain tensions in the broader Middle East conflict, the U.S. is escalating its military involvement in the region. In 48 hours, Washington launched two major operations against Iran-backed targets, striking 36 Houthi targets in Yemen with help from the U.K. and support from Canada. A coalition of several environmental groups is demanding a full study before a massive $7 billion EV battery site is built in McMasterville, Quebec about 45 minutes west of Montreal. Despite an injunction, a Superior Court Judge ruled last week that the Swedish manufacturer Northvolt had all the necessary permits to continue its preparatory work, and many residents are extremely concerned. Elizabeth Zogalis reports. Finally, Canadians are well known for strapping on skates or skis at this time of the year. Now, a traditional summer sport is becoming a big smash during this winter: tennis, under inflatable domes. Tennis Canada is sanctioning the sport under these bubbles to encourage more people to pick up the game. And as Tim Sargeant reports, players are swinging into it.
