Flooding has forced the Village of Pemberton, B.C., to declare a state of emergency. A number of properties in the community about 30 kilometres north of Whistler have been ordered to evacuate, while others are under evacuation alert. Meanwhile, Squamish residents are also bracing for another big storm. A flood warning is in effect for the Squamish River and tributaries and it has the community on edge. The lawyers for Michael McLeod and Cal Foote of the New Jersey Devils, Dillon Dubé of the Calgary Flames and Carter Hart of the Philadelphia Flyers on Tuesday confirmed that their clients now face sexual assault charges related to an incident in 2018 in London, Ont., when they were members of Canada's World Junior hockey team. The charges come two days after Alex Formenton, 24, was also charged with sexual assault. Canada is seeing a rise in firearm-related violent crime, new data from Statistics Canada shows, with the rate of incidents per 100,000 people has risen by 8.9 per cent in 2022 compared to the year before. The numbers show part of the increase is being spurred on by the rate and number of crimes taking place in Ontario, with almost 4,800 being reported by police in 2022, a jump of 1,016 from the year before.
