Loblaw is reversing its decision to nix a 50 per cent discount on expiring foods. Earlier this week, CBC reported that an email from Loblaw Companies Ltd. stated it would no longer discount perishable foods like meat, fruit and vegetables by 50 per cent as their best-before date approaches. The decision was widely criticized by people who rely on the discount to eat, especially as the price of groceries continues to rise. Loblaw said Friday the 50 per cent stickers will be returning across Canada in the next few weeks. As a result of the poor and extreme weather conditions he currently lives in, Mexico is preparing to relocate “Benito” the giraffe from a public park in Ciudad Juárez to the beloved Africam Safari wildlife conservation in Puebla. The decision was made after activists condemned the tall-necked mammal’s small and lonely living quarters.
Japan became the fifth nation to land on the moon on Friday, after the country's space agency said its Smart Lander for Investigating Moon — or SLIM — successfully touched down on the lunar surface. According to space agency officials, new technology was used to land on a precise location. Though the launch and touchdown was successful, later parts of the mission might not be completed as SLIM's solar panels were not generating electricity for the spacecraft — possibly as a result of how they are angled. This forced the teams to axe some of its functions, including the heater, so it can run on battery power for a few hours. Global’s Kyle Benning reports.
