B.C. residents will soon become the first in Canada to have access to an at-home, self-screening test for cervical cancer. About 200 people are diagnosed with cervical cancer a year in the province, Premier David Eby said Tuesday morning. A winter storm is hammering Vancouver Island Tuesday afternoon, bringing very strong winds, large waves, high tides and some coastal flooding. The City of Victoria is warning residents that “extreme weather warnings” are in place with wind gusts of up to 90 km/h expected. The first big winter storm of the year pushed huge waves over the Dallas Road seawall on the Victoria waterfront. Raging wildfires, scorching heat waves, El Niño and other extreme weather events all contributed to 2023 being the hottest year on record, according to the Copernicus Climate Change Service (C3S). Data from the C3S shows every day of that year was at least 1°C above pre-industrial temperatures. NASA is delaying the launch of two moon missions, including the first lunar orbit set to carry Canadian astronaut Jeremy Hansen. Artemis II will be pushed back from November 2024 to September 2025, while Artemis III, which will see humans set foot on the moon for the first time in more than 50 years, will be delayed until at least September 2026.
