Family members of remaining Hamas hostages in Gaza took to the streets on Tuesday to protest against humanitarian aid for Gaza. About 30 protesters who tried to block aid trucks going into Gaza were stopped by Israeli police on the way to the Kerem Shalom crossing. "We are going to stop the trucks because it's supposed to be humanitarian for humanitarian, it can't be only one side. Take out the hostages," one protester said. More than 130 hostages remain in Gaza, most believed to be in Hamas custody, after more than 100 were released during a short-lived truce in late November. Israel says it will press on with its devastating military offensive in Gaza until Hamas is wiped out, all captives are freed and the Palestinian enclave poses no more security threat. Hamas has said it will free no more hostages, at least until Israel halts the war. French President Emmanuel Macron appointed 34-year-old Education Minister Gabriel Attal as France’s next prime minister on Tuesday, hoping to give his government a reset ahead of Europe's parliamentary elections. Attal is the country’s youngest and the first openly gay prime minister. Parisians had mixed opinions about the appointment, with some welcoming the idea of a young prime minister, while others suggested his appointment would ultimately not make any changes in the way the government operates. “No, it’s never too young. When it’s effective, it’s never too young,” said one young voter, Arthur Blot, about Attal’s age. “What’s scary is that he’s a mini-Macron and on that… watch out,” he added. Attal, a close Macron ally became a household name during the COVID-19 pandemic as a government spokesperson. He replaces outgoing prime minister Elisabeth Borne. Two teenage girls from Montreal are being called heroes after a dramatic water rescue in Barbados. The West Island vacationers were relaxing at the Carribean beach after boogie boarding when they noticed a woman struggling to swim approximately 50 feet from the shore. “I went out to her and she told me her husband was further out and he was struggling to swim,” 13-year-old Zoe Meklensek-Ireland said. "The undertow that day was pretty strong, which I think contributed to the fact of them being pulled out,” 14-year-old Emma Bassermann added. After bringing the couple back to shore safely, the girls are enjoying the rest of their vacation. Global’s Amanda Jelowicki reports. Activists and dog lovers cheered as South Korea’s parliament passed a bill on Tuesday to end the selling and slaughtering for consumption of dog meat — a move that would outlaw the controversial centuries-old practice amid growing support for animal welfare. Speaking after the bill was passed, anti-dog meat campaign manager of the Humane Society International Lee Sang-kyung said the group’s priority from now will be to rescue dogs abandoned in dog farms and help find them new owners. Proposed by the ruling party, the bill was passed by an overwhelming 208 votes with two abstentions in the single-chamber parliament after its bipartisan agriculture committee approved it on Monday. Pet owners welcomed the news, but others said dog meat consumption has been the country’s tradition and is a matter of preference.
