An elderly woman was rescued from her collapsed home in Japan’s Wajima city on Thursday as rescue workers raced to find survivors of the New Year’s Day earthquake, despite a three-day survival window closing. The woman, in her 80s, was conscious while trapped under the collapsed first floor of her home, the Osaka Fire Department said. Deaths climbed on Friday to at least 94 people and more than 200 people are still missing after a series of quakes rattled Japan’s western coast. At least four people are dead and 28 injured after a head-on collision between two trains in Cicalengka, Indonesia on Friday morning. Drone and broadcast footage captured the aftermath of the crash and the tireless rescue efforts from West Java province emergency services. The four fatalities were train crew members according to local police — two of which were trapped between train carriages. Authorities said that the trains, together, held 478 passengers total, adding that all injured passengers were rushed to nearby hospitals. Gloucestershire locals swapped cars for boats on Friday, as flooding forced them to paddle through the streets of the southwestern English county. Major rivers across Britain were flooded after heavy rain, with the government issuing more than 300 flood warnings, travel operators announcing serious disruptions and around 1,000 homes suffering damage so far.
