The most recent Ontario health data says a patient arriving at an emergency room in the province waits an average of two hours and six minutes to see a doctor. Now, a new poll suggests that staffing issues could get even worse. More than a quarter of workers at Ontario hospitals say they are considering leaving their jobs in 2024. A survey of hundreds of union workers that was conducted by Nanos Research found a majority of those workers – 56 per cent – aren’t confident that those working conditions will improve this year. After two explosions in Iran killed about 100 people during a death anniversary ceremony for commander Qassem Soleimani on Wednesday, Iranian officials blamed Israel and the U.S. for the attacks. Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi told a crowd in Tehran that "the Zionist regime will pay the price for this crime," while head of Iran’s elite Quds force Esmail Ghaani said that “the Zionist regime and the criminal America” will be “disgraced.” Speaking separately in Washington, D.C., U.S. State Department spokesperson Matthew Miller said that “the United States was not involved in any way and any suggestion to the contrary is ridiculous,” adding that “we have no reason to believe that Israel was involved in this explosion.” Several countries, including Russia and Turkey, condemned the attacks while the United Nations (UN) Secretary-General called for those responsible to be held accountable. As one of the world's most seismically active countries, Japan is known for its ability to be prepared for earthquakes like the magnitude 7.6 that hit on New Year's Day. But what if a major earthquake like that one happened in Canada — or if a bigger one like the magnitude 9.0 that struck that same island in 2011 hit here? As Sean Previl reports, seismologists, engineers and geologists say Canada is ready but there is still more that can be done.
