Jodi Hildebrandt, the business partner of former family vlogger Ruby Franke, has pleaded guilty to four counts of aggravated child abuse for torturing Franke’s children. Last week, Franke also pleaded guilty to four counts of aggravated child abuse, a second-degree felony. Both women were initially charged with six counts of child abuse, but each accepted a plea deal that knocked off two of those charges. A copy of the plea agreement obtained by KUTV shows that Hildebrandt faces up to 15 years in prison and a fine of up to US$10,000 for each count. Hildebrandt signed the agreement on Dec. 23. Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said on Thursday that some people in the West were suggesting that Moscow should discuss peace in Ukraine because the United States and its allies had failed to defeat Russian forces in Ukraine. Nearly two years into Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine, Moscow controls about 17.5 per cent of Ukrainian territory, and a Ukrainian counter-offensive this year has failed to win any major territorial gains against Russian forces who have defended the front, with extensive minefields and swarms of drones. Lavrov, in an interview with RIA state news agency and the Rossiya 24 TV channel, said there were signs that the West was changing its tactics and strategy on Ukraine. "The West is really changing its tactics — maybe even thinking about clarifying the strategy. Because if the 'strategic defeat of Russia' is a strategy, forgive the tautology, then this strategy failed miserably," Lavrov said. As New Year's Eve approaches, German police, environmental groups, and health authorities are calling for a ban on fireworks due to concerns over their inappropriate and careless use, as well as air pollution caused by the explosives. Despite the calls for a ban, fireworks enthusiasts in Grevenbroich, North Rhine-Westphalia, were treated to a dazzling display of fireworks and lasers as a retailer launched the sale of fireworks at midnight. The Managing Director of Pyroteamstore, Sascha Krumbach, emphasized that it is not a good idea to set off fireworks in city centers or old towns where space is limited. However, he does not support a ban in the countryside, "where people simply have space." Authorities in Minnesota are asking for the public's help in locating a driver who nearly hit students leaving a school bus last week. According to the Pine County Sheriff's Office, the incident took place on Dec. 21 at around 3:22 p.m. on County Road 41 in Willow River. Video footage from the school bus shows a motorist in a Ford Ranger pass another vehicle on the shoulder before driving past a school bus with its stop sign out.
