A U.S. delegation led by Secretary of State Antony Blinken met Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador on Wednesday to discuss migration along their joint border. Before the meeting, Obrador said on Wednesday the U.S. Congress should focus on investing in people instead of building walls. President Joe Biden's administration is seeking help from Lopez Obrador's government to stem migration flows and cope with record numbers of people trying to reach the U.S. border, a key issue ahead of the U.S. presidential election in November. “We don't need to go back to our country if we have nothing there, if we had we wouldn't be migrating and we wouldn't be invading a part that doesn't belong to us but we want help, we want an education for our children, that's all we ask for as human beings," said Venezuelan migrant Noemi Zendejas. On a sparkling, clear and calm day in early December, part-time Montreal model Kim Bruneau slipped into the ocean off the coast of Nassau in the Bahamas, wearing a pink tutu, setting her sights on a new Guinness World Record for underwater modelling. “With this type of challenge, the model has the hardest part because I put my life in their hands,” Bruneau, 38, said from her Montreal home. Bruneau, photographer Pia Oyarzun, and a large team of helpers swam 130 feet down into the ocean. There, Bruneau removed her air tank and mask, holding her breath so Oyarzun could take photos of her posing for the world record. Every few minutes, an assistant brought over a tank so Bruneau could take in some air. Then she would hold her breath again, posing for the photographer. In all, the team shot pictures at 130 feet for nine minutes. It set a new Guinness World record for deepest underwater modelling photoshoot. Global's Amanda Jelowicki has the details. At least six people were detained at an anti-government protest in Buenos Aires on Wednesday, as protesters demonstrated against austerity measures introduced by President Javier Milei. Demonstrators say the measures are in opposition to basic social rights and will result in wage stagnation. “There is a violation of workers’ fundamental rights in Argentina. They are attacking our wages,” said Leftist leader Eduardo Belliboni. “Workers are suffering decreases in their wages by a government that benefits the interest of the big business owners.” The measures introduced to Congress include reforms of Argentina’s tax and criminal systems, energy, and electoral process. An Indiana motorist who was trapped in his overturned pickup truck for six days was rescued on Tuesday after two men spotted the wreckage under a highway bridge while they were fishing. Mario Garcia and his son-in-law Nivardo Delatorre first thought the man, identified as 27-year-old Matthew Reum, might be deceased when they stumbled on his vehicle. But according to Garcia, “the moment” he touched Reum’s shoulder, Reum swung around and woke up. "His vehicle missed that guardrail, so he’s driving on the grass shoulder for a good length of time before he goes airborne, down into the creek where he rolls probably several times,” Indiana State Police Sgt. Glen Fifield said. “Quite frankly, it’s a miracle that he’s alive." Police said Reum survived in part by drinking rainwater. Authorities said Reum was airlifted to a hospital in South Bend with life-threatening injuries after being freed from the wreckage and remained in critical condition on Wednesday morning. The bodies of three members of the Pelsma family were recovered during a search near the Alexis Bridge in Lac Ste. Anne County, west of Edmonton, on Tuesday. The family of three — 39-year-old Kelly Pelsma, 37-year-old Laura Pelsma and eight-year-old Dylan Pelsma — had not been seen since Dec. 23. They were reported missing when they didn’t arrive at a family function they were expected to attend. In a news release issued late Monday, police said investigators believed the Pelsma family had gone off-roading in a utility terrain vehicle, or “side-by-side,” in Lac Ste. Anne County, which is located about a one-hour drive west of Edmonton. Emergency service personnel, Edmonton Police Air1 Helicopter and ground search and rescue volunteers converged on the family’s last known location.
