In tonight's top story: Israel appears to be intensifying its military campaign, with reports of strikes in northern and southern parts of Gaza. This comes as a heavily-negotiated resolution for desperately needed aid to Gaza was approved by the United Nations (UN) Security Council on Friday. The resolution calls for a pause in fighting to allow more aid deliveries, but stopped short of demanding a ceasefire. Reggie Cecchini reports. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and military officials said the country's forces shot down three Russian Su-34 fighter-bomber aircraft on Friday on the southern front, hailing it as a success in the 22-month-old war. There are concerns out of Kyiv that they won't have the supplies to hold off the Russian military, unless a new aid package agreement is struck in Washington. Mackenzie Gray has more on why Republicans are holding up additional aid. In Canada, there's optimism for some and desperation for others as tense negotiations continue between Quebec and its public sector workers. One union representing 100,000 teachers said it had reached a partial agreement with the government. But as Dan Spector tells us, teachers, with a more radical union that's been on unlimited strike for a month, are struggling to afford food and gifts as Christmas approaches. For many Canadians impacted by this year's record wildfires, the rebuilding process is still underway. In Nova Scotia, for residents hit by the historic wildfire in suburban areas of the capital, that process has been long and emotionally draining. Christmas came early for the animals at France's Beauval Zoo, as pandas and orangutans opened boxes of presents containing treats on Dec. 22. The zoo's famous pandas received their favourite bamboo stalks, while the orangutans got lettuce and other treats for the occasion.
