Residents of Kyiv shared mixed reaction to the news that Ukraine’s military has requested to mobilize between 450,000 and 500,000 people. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy made the announcement on Tuesday during a press conference. He claimed he would “need more arguments to support this idea” — suggesting the appeal has not yet been approved or denied. Without enough equipment for new troops, some suggest a mobilization “won’t help” amid the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war, while others believe it might be a good idea to form a reserve of personnel. "The people's motivation is dying out. If some are forced to fight against their will, our army won't be as motivated to fight," one resident said. Funding for Ukraine has recently been held up in both the U.S. and European Union (EU) as a result of political division. Zelenskyy, however, says he is certain that the funding will soon continue and is even expecting a 50 billion euro aid package from the EU. A British Columbia family is dealing with the loss of their mother a week before Christmas, and her daughter believes she’d still be alive today if not for the long wait at a hospital in Abbotsford, B.C. Luanora Irtenkauf, 55, died Sunday night at Abbotsford Regional Hospital after being admitted for kidney stones. Irtenkauf lived with a condition that caused her kidneys to chronically produce stones and her family said they were all familiar with the symptoms and the treatment. Her daughter said her mother began feeling unwell on Dec. 13 and a urine test showed she had an infection. As Angela Jung reports, the family wants someone held accountable. Enquête | November 30, 2023 The Church of Scientology is well known for its opposition to psychiatry and the use of psychotropic medications. The show Enquête infiltrated the Church to show exactly what alternatives Scientology proposes to those with diagnosed mental illness problems. Since its founding in the 1950s, the Church has offered up its own alternative theories on the functioning of the human brain and even its own remedies to psychiatric problems. The report shows Church officials providing medical advice and encouraging people to stop taking their prescribed medications; a prerequisite for a purification process at the center of the doctrine of the Church. « The Purification Rundown » involves taking potentially toxic doses of vitamins, sold out the back of a mechanic’s garage. Those who follow the program also undergo intensive sauna sessions every day; a medically risky regime approved by doctors friendly to Scientology.
