The Israeli Defence Forces (IDF) head, Maj.-Gen. Herzi Halevi addressed his troops and the internal incident that took place on Friday related to the killing of three Israeli hostages in Gaza, amid the ongoing Israel-Hamas conflict. The murdered hostages were bare-chested and carrying a white flag as they sought help from the IDF, before they were mistakenly shot dead by the troops. “If it's two Gazans with a white flag coming out to surrender, would we shoot at them? Absolutely not … That's not the IDF,” Halevi said in a video released Sunday, where he suggested troops not make the same mistake again. “We arrest them, we don't shoot them. We get a lot of intelligence from the captives we have,” Halevi added. Meanwhile in Tel Aviv, Israeli army spokesperson, Rear Admiral Daniel Hagari said that the IDF has located the building the three hostages in question were staying in before being killed. Signs reading "S.O.S." and "Help, three hostages" in Hebrew were found on the walls of the Gaza where the men were staying. The IDF shared images of the building and signs on Sunday. Thousands of people gathered in Tel Aviv on Saturday to demand the Israeli government do more to secure the release of hostages still held by Hamas militants in Gaza. The protest was held a day after three hostages were mistakenly identified as a “threat” and fatally shot by Israeli forces in Gaza, according to military officials. Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, meanwhile, has vowed to maintain military pressure on Gaza but has hinted that talks are underway towards a new deal. Global's Nivrita Ganguly reports. On top of the recalls on Malichita and Rudy brand cantaloupes, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has added recalls on granola bars and cereal from the Quaker Oats company due to fears they may be contaminated with salmonella. Mexico’s Health Department on Friday ordered the temporary closure of a melon-packing plant implicated in salmonella infections that killed five people in Canada and three in the United States. "Salmonella is a very common type of bacteria, but there are many different strains," says Joseph McPhee, a biomedical sciences professor at the Toronto Metropolitan University. This most recent (cantaloupe) outbreak is caused by an unusual strain of salmonella and we actually don’t know much about how it causes disease.” For more info, please go to https://globalnews.ca/news/10173609/cantaloupe-salmonella-plant-mexico/ Subscribe to Global News Channel HERE: http://bit.ly/20fcXDc Like Global News on Facebook HERE: http://bit.ly/255GMJQ Follow Global News on Twitter HERE: http://bit.ly/1Toz8mt Follow Global News on Instagram HERE: https://bit.ly/2QZaZIB #GlobalNews #cantaloupe
