Heavy rain and winds have swept up the U.S. East Coast, bringing major flooding, widespread power outages, and at least one tornado. Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic declared victory in a snap parliamentary election on Sunday, after pollsters projected his ruling Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) was on track to easily win. Vucic said an alliance headed by SNS, 'Serbia Must Not Stop' would hold a majority in parliament and there was already "important work" to do on the day after the election. In a separate press conference, observers from the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) said they have registered the misuse of public resources, a lack of separation between official functions and campaign activities, and intimidation and pressure on voters, including cases of vote buying. “Yesterday's results have shown that the Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) didn't just verify its political power, but also strengthened it, considering they're victorious on all levels when they're 11 years in power and had a very turbulent political year,” Centre for Free Elections and Democracy analyst Bojan Klacar said. Responding to remarks from U.S. President Joe Biden that Russia would attack a NATO country if it won its ongoing war with Ukraine, Russian President Vladimir Putin said that he has “no reason or interest” to do so. “It is complete nonsense and I think President Biden understands that,” Putin said during an interview last Thursday, further suggesting the U.S. leader was trying to justify his own “mistaken policy” on Russia. "Russia has no reason, no interest — no geopolitical interest, neither economic, political nor military — to fight with NATO countries," Putin added. Since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine began in Feb. 2022, Putin has repeatedly cast the post-Cold War expansion of NATO as evidence of the West's way of dealing with Russia's security concerns. United States Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin reiterated America’s steadfast support for Israel in its fight against Hamas during a visit to the region on Monday.
