Workers at Impala Platinum have embarked on what the company describes as an illegal strike on Monday. Implats says it is closely monitoring the underground protest, which began this morning, at both the North and South shafts at Bafokeng Rasimone Mine. Management has since suspended mining operations at the two shafts and recalled all employees from the underground working areas. As of 3pm Monday afternoon there were over 2,205 employees still underground. The miners are yet to share their demands with mine management. Members of the AmaZulu royal family supporting Prince Simakade say they'll oppose President Cyril Ramaphosa's application for leave to appeal the High Court judgment. The court declared the president's recognition of King MisuZulu KaZwelithini invalid and set it aside. It's been nearly three months since the fire at Usindiso house in Marshalltown killed over 70 people and left others homeless. Efforts to secure alternative accommodation have seen the victims going from pillar to post.
