The ANC’s bid to bar the MK party from using uMkhonto we Sizwe's name and logo has been dismissed. The ANC argued in court that the name MK and its symbols are part of the former liberation movement’s trademark, legacy, and heritage. The MK Party has welcomed the judgment, saying it paves the way for the party to focus on its election campaign. Shack dwellers movement, Abahlali Basemjondolo, hosted its ‘Unfreedom Day Rally’ in Mayville, Durban, to highlight the plight of people living in informal settlements. Abahlali says the governing party has failed South Africans, especially the poor as it has failed to provide land and jobs. The uMkhonto weSizwe Liberation War Veterans have met in Durban to strategise on how to counter the rapid rise of Zuma's MK Party. Coastal towns in the Eastern Cape should be a mecca for tourism. The province is famous for its beautiful, unique and dramatic landscape but many areas on the Wild Coast are seeing fewer and fewer visitors to their towns, and the problems are not new. The High Court in Durban will rule this week on the ANC's request to prevent the MK Party from adopting the name and logo of Umkhonto WeSizwe. The ANC has registered the contentious name that's at the heart of the copyright infringement court battle. A document obtained through a Companies and Intellectual Property Commission search shows that the brand, which was previously owned by Legacy Projects, has been "assigned" to the ANC.
