World Health Day raises awareness about health issues and advocates for accessible healthcare for all. This year's theme is "My Health, my Right". It was chosen to champion the right of everyone to have access to quality health services, education, and information, as well as safe drinking water, clean air, good nutrition, quality housing, decent working and environmental conditions, and freedom from discrimination. Deaths related to non-communicable diseases are on the rise in South Africa. Diabetes, cardiovascular diseases and cancer are some of the highest contributing underlying causes of death. According to Professor Renata Schoeman of Stellenbosch Business School, many people struggle to take responsibility for their own health. There's been in an outcry around the manner in which police have deal with armed criminals, especially in KwaZulu-Natal. Police Minister Bheki Cele - together with National Commissioner Fannie Masemola - will on Sunday provide an update on operations in response to serious and violent crimes.
KwaZulu-Natal police have rescued six men who were kidnapped in Pietermaritzburg last week. The group had been held in a house in Newlands West where they'd been reportedly beaten and tortured.

The residential rental market has shown resilience, with low vacancies prevailing. This is one of the key findings of TPN Credit Bureau's Vacancy Survey Report for the fourth quarter of 2023.
