According to a recent Interpol report, South Africa is at the top of Africa in terms of cyber threats and ranks third worldwide. The Southern African Fraud Prevention Services says there’s been a rise in fraudulent activities with criminals targeting banking apps to loot victims’ bank accounts. Africa’s biggest retailer, the Shoprite group, has reported a 7.6 percent growth in its half-year profit. They say this is thanks to cash-strapped shoppers and upmarket consumers, who went after food deals on Black Friday and during the festive season. CEO Pieter Engelbrecht discussed this with eNCA. The controversial e-tolls in Gauteng will be a thing of the past come month end, that's the assurance from Finance MEC Jacob Mamabolo. This comes after Premier Panyaza Lesufi promised in his recent State of the Province address to switch off the gantries. Election season is officially in full swing. Tuesday the Electoral Commission of South Africa kicked off its election education campaign, to improve the youth’s understanding of and participation in democratic processes. And the ANC is racing against time to finalise its list of candidates for Parliament ahead of the IEC’s Friday cut-off date. The party says it has not ruled out members who've been implicated in state capture and other corruption. Political analyst Tessa Dooms discussed this with eNCA. Gun violence and shootings continue to spiral out of control around the country. Over the weekend, at least seven people were killed in separate shootings in Riverlea, Westbury, and Eldorado Park. While there were promises of stricter law enforcement authorities on the ground, that seems not to be the case with some killings happening in broad daylight. These are thought to be gang-related.
