There has been some resistance to the provision of the so-called spy-bill. The Organisation Undoing Tax Abuse or OUTA has submitted it’s objections to the General Intelligence Laws Amendment Bill to parliament. The bill will regulate the surveillance of electronic signals, communication, and internet traffic in South Africa. OUTA says certain provisions could lead to unwarranted intrusion by state security agencies. Outa’s advocate Stefani Fick discussed this with eNCA. Two SA soldiers have been killed and three others wounded in a mortar attack on a base in North Kivu in the DRC. It comes as the country announced the deployment of almost 3,000 troops to Eastern DRC. The troops are set to help the army fight M23 rebels. The South African Democratic Teachers Union has refuted claims that it’s being used as an election campaigning tool. The union has released a statement following social media posts by UDM leader, Bantu Holomisa accusing it of being in cahoots with the Independent Electoral Commission. Sadtu says these allegations undermine the integrity of the IEC. Sadtu’s Nomusa Cembi discussed this with eNCA. A proposed bill in the US will require the administration there to examine whether South Africa is undermining US security and foreign policy interests. Republican John James and Democrat Jared Moscowit say South Africa is siding with "malign actors" on the international stage. The Bill threatens South Africa's prospects of benefitting from the African Growth and Opportunity Act. There are moves afoot to review bilateral relations between Washington and Pretoria. This comes in the wake of the Pretoria-led genocide case against Israel at the International Court of Justice. The SA Medical Association is gearing up to pursue legal action to challenge the National Health Insurance rollout. The association says the country’s ailing healthcare system will negatively impact the NHI’s efficacy. Following parliament’s approval in December, the bill has been referred to the president to sign into act. It may be some time before the wage dispute at Durban’s uShaka Marine World ends. At least 300 workers downed tools on Monday, demanding a 15% salary increment but management at Durban’s only theme park say they can’t afford it. It’s been months of unsuccessful negotiations between the South African Workers Union and Ushaka. The terrorised community of West Village in Krugersdorp is begging for help due to illegal mining activities. The community says it's living in fear two years after calm was restored in the area.
