As we have seen with recent rains in KwaZulu-Natal and fires in Cape Town, severe weather does put infrastructure at risk. Despite the inclement weather leaving death and destruction in its wake, it also destroys crucial economic infrastructure. The University of Cape Town has released a research paper on the matter which reveals that R20-billion worth of the City's transport system is at risk. The Gauteng Government and a camera provider have announced a crime-busting partnership. Through it, the Gauteng Government will have immediate access to a network of over 6,000 Vumacam cameras in the province and more nationally. The partners have also committed to extending camera coverage to underserved areas like townships, settlements, and hostel areas. This year's International Condom Day is shining the spotlight on safe sex practices through condom use. According to the World Health Organization, condoms remain the most effective way to prevent sexually transmitted infections including HIV as well as unplanned pregnancies. A worrying trend in South Africa shows inconsistencies in condom use among young people. Tusani Kunene, National Preventions Manager at the AIDS Healthcare Foundation spoke with eNCA. The General Intelligence Laws Amendment Bill is out for public comment. The bill will see the surveillance of electronic signals, communication signals, and internet traffic, on a very large scale. It has drawn a lot of criticism. One is that normal people who are neither suspected of crime nor a threat to national security will be under surveillance. The ANC has four days now to hand over all records of cadre deployment to the DA. The Constitutional Court refused to grant the governing party leave to appeal an earlier High Court ruling. It ruled it was not in the interest of justice to do so, effectively blocking all legal routes to stop the disclosure. Tourism sector leaders are alarmed after the Department of Home Affairs asked foreign tourists to leave the country by the end of this month if their visa renewal outcomes aren’t received by the 23rd of the month. The Southern African Tourism Services Association (SATSA) says that the sun chasers and so-called swallows who follow summers and move between the northern and southern hemispheres will be most affected. The Constitutional Court has thrown out the ANC’s bid to appeal against a lower court ruling on its controversial cadre deployment policy. The ANC will now have to hand over the records of the deployment committee from January 2013. President Cyril Ramaphosa was chairperson of the committee at the time. Political analyst, Professor Dirk Kotze says cadre deployment is one of the best-known policies of the ANC. And many of the party’s woes over the past decade can be traced back to it.
